@Kristian:

Sorry for the delayed response. I've been quite busy and hadn't checked back :-/

We're practically neighbors! I'll email ya.

And yes, I'd replace'em all, just to be safe, because they WILL leak in the future (or dry up).

From your description further down, it sounds like it's the leaky caps that's your problem.

@vk3heg:

Quality beats quantity! :-)

But seriously, I used the macro feature of my digital camera, and I was able to come close. Use plenty of light, so that way the photos don't come out shaky. If you use flash from close range, I put some paper or something to dampen the brightness and get less specular highlights (which makes things hard to see as they become totally white).

@Vlabguy1:

Wow, that looks worse than my board for sure... I think my board has only just begun to leak, in any case replacing the caps with better (safer) ones will make sense no matter what :)

Agreed.  I did not replace mine..I opted for new boards instead.  You might want
to inspect your mother board while your at it.  as I found a few suspect caps
there as well.

Good luck

Glad I checked out this thread  :-D
-D-: and anyone else who cares, the guy listed on amiganews.de , Ed Jeffries does a great job on fixing miggies. He repaired a dead parallel port on my first 4000, and I got my 'refurbished' 4000/WarpEngine from him as well.
Darksun: Hmm, my 4000T is acting up like yours was.... Doesn't seem to provide enough power, but on the +12V line, could this be leaky caps too? Ugh, will have to pack it up and send it to Ed Jeffries....

    Question for DA9000: Are you able to replace other SMT components by any chance? I've got three A4000S that all have something wrong with them, and one has a dead clock chip.

    I'd do it myself, but I don't have any SMT rework equipment.

@Marcfrick2112

the big hint i got that something was not right was the brown burn marks on the PSU's power connector plugs. after unplugging them and looking inside the plugs, (not the socket on the mainboard, that was ok *phew*), some of the connectors had almost burnt down to thin whispery wire.

my A4000T when i sold it, had a CSPPV060 with CVPPC, 64+16MB ram, digital broadcaster32, AD516, CV64/3D, Vlab Y/C, and an opalvision / hydra ethernet all drawing off the mainboard power supply.

AFAIK, it's still currently serving time dishing up interactive displays at the imperial war museum.

sorry to hijack the thread. :-)
