Title: Can OS4 host a Drupal site?
Post by: persia on March 11, 2010, 03:29:46 PM
Just out of curiosity, since OS4 now has PHP, Apache and MySQL can you run a Drupal CMS installation on it?

If all Drupal needs is php and apachie, that both are up to date I shouldn't see why you couldn't.

Now as to how well it would run even if all the prerequisites were met is another matter entirely. AmigaOS isn't exactly geared up for that sort of work.

Well D6 does like MySQL 5 or better. And PHP 5; I guess, the question is how well does AOS4 run these technologies. If good, Drupal Good.

Drupal rules.

@JC

CMS Package

@Thread
I guess it could but I wouldn't want to put anything of importance on Amiga hardware and OS4 at the stage they both are at. As a bit of fun, yes, for commercial purposes, no.

Amiga hardware and OS is not really aimed at servers, its better used on the desktop.

Depending upon the number of modules you run, and how poorly coded your SQL queries, Drupal can be a dog.  Even a well-coded site can cause problems.  It *loves* memory, especially if you are running Apache, which is not the most memory efficient web server in the world.

My experience with Drupal has encouraged me not to host Drupal sites until I upgrade my system hardware.  YMMV.

@LoadWB

I have used Concrete5 for the CMS of the new http://www.amiga600.net (no real content of yet). I have also got a wordpress blog at http://blog.amiga600.net. Running on very basic hardware, but works well. Concrete5 should be considered when looking at CMS tools.

Drupal is plenty clean and efficient, it's just stooopid people who pile on loads of modules, without understanding the .tpl system (that could do it quicker) and then wonder why it is "slow".

Besides, is there anyone really running MySQL 4.x or PHP 4 ? If so you probably own an Amiga too, lol
