aros on via epia 5000 (533 mhz) possible?
« on: June 20, 2013, 06:11:49 AM »
Hello,

I wonder will all components work, how fast/slow would it be and which AROS flavour to use?

Any advice is welcome.
Thanks

Here is the link for this old board: VIA EPIA 5000

Can some AROS guru check specs and tell me is there any point installing on that board, will all components work, and how fast can it be?

Thanks,

You will have Vesa and with luck Audio (AC97). Bit it could be that your AC97 chip doesn't work. Network is not supported.

If you own it, just try. If not, don't buy.
AROS doesn't support the GPU. The CPU is slow as hell.

1GHZ is minimum on such embedded CPU's / low voltage stuff.
Even with 1GHZ it will be slower than a P3 500.

To get Neworking, and accelerated grafics supported you could try AROS hosted on linux.

More expensive but cooler:
Via's Pico or nano ITX device with dual-core or quad-core.
With AROS hosted you can have some fun and they are damn small.

Amithlon might work on it.

Actually, Ethernet (Rhine-II) and audio should work.
