"@redrumloa
just to sum things up, everything after 1994/95 failed."

Yeah, maybe a list of hardware that 'actually' got release would be more managable.  :-D
A3000D (16mhz, 2MB Chip, 4MB Fast, SCSI (300+MB), SuperGen Genlock, Kick 3.1)
Back in my day, we didn\'t have water. We only had Oxygen and Hydrogen, and we\'d just have to shove them together.

What was the Roaster to have done?

Yeah, as Pyromania said it was suppose to have similar functionality as the Video Toaster.

Quote
optional Video Processor and Roaster Chip adds a wealth of additional features and functionality including:
-framegrabbing, genlocking, chroma keying, luma keying, realtime colour processing of live video
-provides an unlimited number of transitions and digital video effects including cuts, wipes, fades, special organic effects (soft- or hard edged), infinite range of flips, tumbles, page peels, image wrapping, picture in picture effects and more 24 bit 35 ns character generator

I believe these are photos of the Roaster (looks like an entire board that plugs in not just a chip)

There was also suppose to be the Opal Vision Video suite:

-a 19 inch rack mountable unit which includes video and audio mixing, switching and transcending connects directly to the Video Processor
-24 bit frame store
-nine video and ten audio inputs
-professional quality video inputs and outputs are available simultaneously in RGB or Y / R-Y / B-Y, composite and S-Video
-linear transparency key provides transparency control between two video sources on a pixel by pixel basis
-fully software sequenced audio mixer with smooth fades and full 5 band stereo frequency equalization

It's too bad the Roaster did not come out. It would have forced NewTek to innovate the Amiga Video Toaster  Flyer more.

How?  Amiga ceased to exist not the Video Toaster.

As far has the Video Toaster Flyer, well, they did.  They still are.

The big beige box/PSU has a different CPU, but their products continue.

TV stations still use the Video Toaster.  Just like any hardware you upgrade to newer versions when the current one gets old.   They don't know/care what it says under the sticker.

If you went into a local TV station and said "Remember when you use to use the Video Toaster?"   They'd probably say, "What are you talking about, use to?  We've been using Video Toaster since, 1991.  Look we have the latest version right here."
