4000T Advice needed
« on: August 05, 2017, 03:51:00 AM »
Was thinking about the updated Cloanto ROM's for my 4000T. They are updated and have new SCSI, boots large drives but moves FFS and updated installer to disk. this is to avoid reboot... Can I put what's on the disk into flash on ALGOR USB card with proper assigns and not have to reboot?

Thinking of it I may be able to put "workbench.library" in there also.

Not the 3.9 workbench. This version is not ROM-able due to some technicalities.

I've heard there are some bugs in (some of?) the Cloanto ROMs, but I don't think there's a need for them. You can just put the various updated 3.9 (and post-3.9) modules into the Algor Flash. And because it's Flash, it's easy to update when new versions of the modules become available.

There is one tiny reboot required to kick in the modules at cold boot, but it happens very, very early in the boot process. I think on my machine it added maybe 2 seconds. Depending on the bootloader you use in the Algor, you can optionally rekick the modules at warm boot (slower, but you have the option of disabling them at every boot) or prevent them from being disabled altogether (very dangerous, suggest avoiding).

I did have to change my startup-sequence SetPatch line to SKIPROMUPDATE, though. It couldn't detect that the modules were already loaded and so it was rebooting there.

I'd try one of these:

The only ones I have seen are complaints from non 4000T user that don't have the "workbench.library" on disk already.
