Just got my A3000UX and A4000 out of the closet and thought
I'd go back to the 'good times' when computing was fun. It has been many years since i've used an Amiga, growing very tired of using Windows and Linux doesn't quite do it for me.

btw my A3000UX needs a new Agnus, 8372AB I believe. If anybody has a spare I would be grateful if you could get in touch with me..

First thing you need to do is check the batteries in those machines and get them out if they are leaking!

Thanks for the advice.

I checked both boards and I must have removed them prior to packing them away years ago, I vaguely remember the A3000 having some acid leakage and I must have removed the A4000 battery as a precaution.

There is some yellowing on the face of the A4000 but the A3000 is really clean & I am missing the button & the assembly, it has to be somewhere I guess.

Ahh.. they kinda work. I mean, the clock in the A4k is still cactus after re-installing another, I don't see any track damage so maybe if I replace a couple of chips it might work again.

I had some luck getting the clock to work in the A3000 on Saturday though. Just bridged a couple of tiny tracks and fired up Sysinfo, I was quite impressed when it reported that the clock was found. I quickly spot soldered in this 3.6v Lithium AXIAL and a small signal diode and that did the trick..




Now to get another Agnus and she will be good as new

Hey Goldtop, where about in Australia are you? I've noticed a lot of people around the world lately have been dusting of their old Amigas and bringing them out again (myself included). And there are quite a few Aussies around still using them too.

I miss my Amigas dearly. Perhaps I just miss the fun I used to have with them. The best toy ever was the Action Replay for the A500 (which I still have around here somewhere). Turrican II is the best platform game of all time. Dune II the best strategy game. Playing Tetris while copying a disk with Tetracopy. Plugging an A570 into my A500 and marvelling at being able to play a CD using a computer. Getting a 1200 baud modem with push buttons on the front and connecting to somebody). (Cue wistful gaze and Enya soundtrack) Being a Sysop and Co-Sysop using Max's BBS and talking to people in real time. Playing Hack'n'Slash for the first time. Using Spot and Trapdoor with Fidonet to talk to people all over the world. Seeing the internet become the World Wide Web. Many things.

I am in Wollongong. I missed using the Amiga but unfortunately Amiga hardware is still so expensive and hard to find.

I was thinking of fully decking out my Amiga 3000 but I don't like the idea of putting it in a tower in order to get the performance and features that I need, besides I really love the look of the A3000 case. If I get a spare 3000 then that may give me the excuse to put it in a tower and add a mediator..etc

I may just end up decking out the A4000 instead.

I was also a sysop & musician, I ran AmiExpress BBS and I still have the entire system on one of my SCSI drives. I cannot bring myself to format that drive after so many years

AmiExpress? Wow! That's something I haven't of in.... years. It was apparently really easy to set up. A hell of alot easier than CNet anyway. What did you think of AmiExpress overall?
