I should feel very dirty
« on: November 21, 2010, 03:39:11 PM »
I tried loading Icaros on this old PIII 700 Compaq Armada E500 and everything would seem to go just fine until I attempted to boot then the danged thing would just hang.

It'd say GRUB loading, or something to that effect.  Tried to reinstall the bootloader by itself as suggested on a couple of websites all to no avail.

Anyway, I decided to try running it virtually on my main computer which has significantly more horsepower.

Couldn't get VMware to install, so I went over to Micro$oft and downloaded Virtual PC 2007.  Icaros installed like a dream!

So, what should I do to atone for running Icaros in a simulated PC with Virtual PC 2007 on a Windows Vista Business computer?

Curtis

Actually, I'm thinking I'll just keep my Icaros hosted on my main machine and turn the laptop into an Ubuntu machine.

Make sure the unit number for the harddrive being used by grub matches the physical unit number (to find it check hdtoolbox).

Yep, 1.2.4.

If you think 1.2.5 will solve the problem, I may wait until it comes out then try again.

if it is icaros 1.2.4 we had trouble with it. 1.2.5 is out in next few days. will be best yet.

Did you.... did you install Windows ME on it?
-edit- using the standard installation cd with Norton AntiVirus and other 'goodies'?

It is.

Technically, the topic is about difficulties installing on an old laptop and my moving over to a virtual icaros machine using Micro$oft Virtual PC 2007.

My apologies if I wandered too far afield.

Strange. When I read the topic I was quite sure that it is about AROS. :hammer:

No problem.  I've noticed in this group, there are some individuals that get pretty militant about things!

My next misadventure will involve MorphOS on a Mac mini I picked up recently.

Gee, then I'll have:
1.  an original Amiga 500 and 2000 running 1.3 and 2.5,
2.  a minimig running 1.3
3.  a virtual Icaros machine, and
4.  a Mac mini running MorphOS.

What else is there?

I wasn't serious.  :hat:

Good luck with your AROS adventure.

Over the years I've had both a 3000T and 3000D.  Very nice machines, but at the time, they both became superfulous.

You're still missing a native AGA machine!  A1200 or A4000.

Or possibly the AGA Minimig, if/when that shows up.  I think the Natami sounds like a cool project, and the X1000 should be pretty sweet.
