What games support multiplayer with serial connection?
« on: July 14, 2004, 04:48:47 PM »
Ive bought an additional A1200,
and a serial cord to connect 2 amigas.

I tried to link them with
Stunt Car Racer Turbo
and the multiplayer worked like a charm!

Now I am EAGER to know what other games
support serial multiplayer connections.

Tell me pleeeeeeeeeeeease! :)

There have been a few...

There's Falcon, which will probably require a patch or degrader before it will work with an A1200.  It's a flight sim and IMHO is quite good and you can fly head to head missions.

Also there's Lotus III, which can be played as a split screen and on two machines.  I'm not sure if this feature allows more than two players though.

We had a dodgy cable so we couldn't get it to work properly :-(

It's a Doom clone btw :-D

Lotus II can do 4 players no worries with split screen multiplayer.. me and a bunch of mates used to play that all the time..   Man.. the amiga was ahead of it's time then..

Also, one of the most interesting games I found was Armour Geddon by Psygnosis over the null modem link.... Flying missions in tanks and planes against each other over the massive landscape was just awesome...

A pretty accurate and up-to-date list of games supporting the serial cable (or any other way of connecting two or more machines) can be found at Amiga Online Games.

Just select 'Networktyp' and then 'Nullmodem' to see the games that support a serial cable.

Fire Power is great fun. Running over enemy soldiers with your tank and stuff... I've only played it split-screen, but there's also a null-modem option IIRC.

Don't confuse the game with the freeware (?) game Firepower, which is on the Amiga Classix 2 compilation (I think) and isn't all that fun...

Thanks 4 ur help!

Armageddon 2 is probably awesome with 2 player.

Powermonger and populous 2
didnt have any 'link' option,
but I didnt have the computers linked at the time.
Is it neccesary to have them connected
-before- loading the game to get that option...?

I have played (and still do!!) FirePower over serial link with my friend many times and it works like a charm, one of the most entertaining multiplayer games in my opinion.
My only complaint is that I am usually laughing so hard when i "squoosh" another players soldiers that I cant react fast enough and I get killed. :-)

Also, I am not exactly sure about this, but, I believe that you can play Formula 1 Grand Prix over a serial link, possibly, F/A-18 Interceptor and I know there are many more.

Thanks,
Mike

F/A-18 Interceptor certainly has no serial linkup option I'm afraid.
