Radeon in Mediator, what do I need?
« on: July 22, 2011, 08:28:20 PM »
I've got a used Mediator 4000D (the desktop into an ATX tower backplane)
I've got what I think is the MMCD 1.0.
I've got a really hot Voodoo3 that is straining to keep up with my LCD at high res.

Do these Mediators have the 5v only problem since it uses an ATX power supply?

I've got a Mac Radeon 9200LE 128, but I understand that I need the Intel PC version.  Anyone flashed to a PC version?

Can I even buy a Radeon for this at AmigaKit or something or do I have to take my chances on ebay?

What about software?  I tried to get an MMCD 2.0 from both Elbox (insane shipping) and AmigaKit (only in some odd bundle with chips), but no luck.

Someone please step me though this.

You can probably find old video cards floating on ebay too

That one says "suitable for Mediator 1200SX or 1200TX busboards".  I assumed that if it worked with any other models it would say so.

I hunted long and hard for one that would work.  Then someone on the Mediator list told me that the ones made by Sapphire work.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sapphire-Technology-ATI-Radeon-9250-11046-12-20R-NEW-/280669208099?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item4159303e23

That's basically the same card I have, though mine is a 256MB one (though I think that it tries to separate the video memory for each of it's dual-head outputs, so the Mediator only gives me the 128MB of ram toward it, rather than the full 256MB.)

I have the Mediator 4000Di though, so it may be a little different, though I don't think so.

For the MM CD, you can download it here http://elbox.com/downloads_mediator.html

Is it as simple as adding a 3.3v supply to the slot or is there more to it?

I've got no issues with adding a jumper wire if that's the only problem.

The one I bought has the 5v line on it, so no need to modify anything.

Works like a champ.

So assuming I get a 5v card, I have the old CD and haven't found a reasonable way to get a 2.0 CD.

What is the deal with registration and updates?

Can I just download the upgrade drivers, install them and be on my way without a $60-$80 CD?

After that non-Elbox USB kills your RDB fiasco, I have to say that those guys scare me. (was that even proven btw?)

Don't worry. We have some Mediator tested Radeons available and we will get the MMCD this week sometime.   We can reserve both for you.  Hope this helps.

I'd much rather buy one that is guaranteed to work, even if it does cost a little more than ebay.

I'll place an order this week, thanks.
