I have a couple of old zorro ethernet cards that have BNC connectors. I need adapters so that they can accept a normal ethernet cable. I want to make sure I'm getting the right thing, since these connectors are also used for video (not what I want). Any good leads on where to get a couple of these adapters for my network cards? -- I'm in the USA -- I need the adapter to have a male BNC end to plug into my current cards. Thanks.

I think you'd have better luck searching for 10base2 to 10baseT adapters, but they aren't cheap.
You might have better luck finding a hub that has a single 10base2 port or if you have AUI ports on the cards maybe get AUI transceivers.
You can find old used 10baseT hubs with single 10base2 connectors dirt cheap or even free.

A hub would also enable you to build a tiny coax segment for your 10Base2 cards and then use a single hub to adapt that to a twisted pair (RJ45) port. This may or may not work with a coax to twisted pair converter/transceiver.
Watch out: a coax segment is built in a completely different way than a twisted pair network. You will need a T-connector for each network card and the hub. These T-connectors are daisy-chained with RG-58 cable and the first and the last T-connectors are equipped with terminators.

I've had at least one Hydranet card that only had BNC.

yeah, as long as you have aui then a transceiver is going to be less hassle.

One vote for transceiver from me too, if you have AUI port. I have Hydra's Amiganet 1.1 card with one AUI and two BNC connectors. At first I used hub with BNC, but then picked handful of AUI->RJ45 transceivers from recycling center for free and those were so much more comfortable to use :) Remember to check your ethernet card if there's jumpers to change when using AUI... in Hydra you had to switch whole line of them.

Nope.. That's just an adapter or balun.
You need a transceiver...

If anybody needs it, I have a fair stretch of coax cable with connectors, T bits and terminators floating about. Some 10-20m.

No. That item should not be called "media converter" because it isn't. It's a simple electrical adapter that just won't work. A real media converter will require a power supply for instance.
The smallest coax (10Base2) setup you'll require (i.e. to connect the NIC and the converter/hub) is:
- 2 terminators
- 2 T-connectors
- length of RG-58 with BNC connectors
Any further device will additionally require:
- T-connector
- length of RG-58 with BNC connectors
If you've got several coax devices you can set up a small 10Base2 network and adapt that with a single hub / media converter.
Alternatively, if you've only got a single NIC equipped with an AUI port it's much simpler to use an 'AUI transceiver for TP/10BaseT' - paid ~4 € for mine on eBay. I think any model will work.

The "AUI transceiver for TP/10BaseT" many people keep mentioning is the best way to go if you connecting to anything modern. 10Base T will work right alongside modern computers and game systems without any modifications or hacks.
The transceiver is cheap, works and is easy.
