I got lucky at Good-Will and found an Atari 1040STf!
It's sitting happily next to my A500 in the computer museam.
It has the monitor and the power cords and everything.
No mouse but I seem to be able to move with "Alternate" and the arrow keys. That gonna be a problem for games? And... Can I download GemDOS anywhere or is that IP of Ubisoft lol.. Maybe someone can e-mail me the zip?
Uhh.. What do I do with it? Any cool software you guys could recomend? Shall I have it play battle chess against the miggy and let you know who wins?

Gemdos ? You mean this (http://www.mucl.de/~mdoering/atari/en/)?
Check out the licence link..
Not sure about the mouse and games..

Ahh is that executible?
Bunch of .c and .h files looked like source code..
I'm giving it a whirl right now. I'll figure it out!
I love new toys.

A couple of Amiga mice are Atari compatible - there should be a switch on the bottom to flip between Amiga and Atari modes. I recall Goldem Image being responsible for at least some of them.

You can also modify an Amiga mouse by simply swaping two wires.

Ahah.. I found a link.
Artari ST Quick FAQ (http://www.megacom.net/~q-funk/ST/#q35)
The floppy drive goes AWOL after about 2 minutes. The motor in there starts sounding weak. It makes lots of noise like an Amiga drive for a while, then it starts to spin slower.
Perhaps that is why this only cost me 10$ Looks like I'll have to get another floppy drive.
Does anyone have any cool software to recomend?

I am also a Atari fanatic! I have almost every Atari computer from the Atari 400 all the way to the TT030!

You would'nt have a spare DSDS floppy drive (preferibly internal) you could sell me on the cheap would you?
-
I have a few internal Epson SMD-300/340 1.44 drives that are for the Mega STE/TT030. I also might have a internal Epson 720k drive for the 1040 STE/Mega/TT030 (the newer ones that have the small eject button)

Can't we all be just one big happy family? It's not like we're that different ;-)
I read Amiga news on a regular basis, although I can generally be considered a die-hard Atari user.

I'm looking into modifying a PC floppy drive. Looks pretty eaisy. I do have a Commadore 128 nice shape in the original box I'm looking to get rid of. If someone wants to trade that for a few mice and a floppy or some games and something..
Question, While Googleing It says that some ST's STE's specifically are upgradable with 30 pin simms? This is an STf, and it looks to have no simm sockets, however, there are several IC's socketed in a row on the left side of the motherboard, nothing else looks like memory. Is that my memory and is it upgradeble? Additionally, how do I tell how much memory the system has?
