that is bullshit ! I use always 1N4148 in Amiga systems and never had problem with rtc

No way!

Never use a silicon diode! They drop the battery voltage 0.7V, sufficient to prevent the RTCs to work.

Use germanium instead, i.e., 1n60 or others (again: never a silicon one, nor a zener, obviously). They drop batt. voltage only 0.3V.

What Diode did you use? 1N4148 Diode?

unfortunately, canned air cannot remove fine dust, it would be best to try some brush  (dont forget to take care of static electricity)

Read the guide LithBatt before you start replacing the battery. It mentions the things you should think about when doing this modification and how to do this modification properly. I read it before modifying my A2000 pictured above and I strongly recommend it.

Good luck replacing your battery!

Seriously, I'd like to try this project on my A3000.  I don't see any signs of the battery dying, but why wait until you have a problem?

Commodore should have made anti leakage Military Spec NiCD batteries instead  :-D
