Bit of a long shot here, but has anyone managed to get AROS working with an nVidia MCP51 ethernet controller? It's pretty common, so maybe there's someone else out there.. :/

So far I'm very impressed with AROS/Icaros, it's come such a long way since I last tried it out!

Right now I just want an Amiga-ish environment that I can use for everyday things, checking email, IRC etc. I have Amiga Forever, which is great, but I love the speed of AROS

Depends what level of running do you need. Amibridge uses Amiga Forever to set up its system

Unless your hardware is a laptop, I woudl recommend buying a used network card with one of supported chipsets - such hardware is dirt cheap, while supporting new network cards has one major problem - person needed to write the driver

I tried AROS on a Mac using Parallels. Networking was terribly slow there. Worse still: the whole (virtual) machine hung until the transfer was completed. One of the CPUs would go to 100% load and all you could do was to sit through it.

Well I am sort of glad that I had these problems with AROS/Parallels, else I wouldn´t have had enough reason to get my Sam440. And the Sam is pretty cool.
