ZombieLand
« on: October 08, 2009, 02:14:05 PM »
Went to see this film  yesterday.  Its not a terrible film, but its not good either.  Few parts are funny.  But on the whole very predicatable andd really not much zombie action.  I wont spoil it by telling you who the cameo is in it.   I would wait for it on DVD if you are going to bother or even better SKY.

And to think emipre had the cheek to mention it in the same sentence as Shaun of the dead.

Few big laughs; stupidally illogical; running zombies hnng; and yes that brilliant cameo. That said I enjoyed it (but I'm a massive zombies fan and very easy to please ;)) Empire should be shot though for mentioning it in the same issue as SOTD, let alone the same sentence!

I agree with everyone here and JJ hit it on the head big time. Not bad, not great - pretty mediocre, which is what this movie should NOT have been. Overall disappointed. Now 'Shaun of the Dead'... that was a great modern/humorous zombie flick! Not easily to be outdone. But honestly? Why do we need ANY more zombie or vampire movies for that matter? Pick a different theme already Hollywood, etc.

But with shaun of the dead you had such a great team of writers and director, that original produced spaced.  If anyone has not seen spaced watch it now.  Now I tell you.  No go watch it now really

I just added the entire to my queue on Netflix. Looks cool, thanks for the tip! Last TV series someone suggested from here was Trailer Park Boys. I'm on season 7 now and loving it! lol

The opening of series 1 episode 3 of Spaced -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vUfBOdSmBU

Filming it was so much fun that Director Edgar Wright and co-writer / star Simon Pegg decided to write a zombie film... I love SOTD sooooooo much! Its script is a work of absolute genius, like the fact everybody tells the future all the time, like -

Pete, to Ed: You want to live like an animal, go live in the f___ shed!
Ed, to Shaun re- Pete: Next time I see him, he's dead.

But the best example is drunk Ed planning tomorrow with Shaun -
Bloody Mary first thing (the girl in the garden)
a bite at the King's Head (his bitten stepdad)
grab a couple at The Little Princess (rescuing Liz and her flatmates)
then stagger back here (their fake zombie walks)
and bang... back at the bar for shots (the climactic showdown).

Go on watch again and listen out for them, there's dozens!

I love foreign shows, especially Brit. 'Coupling', while a completely different genre, was a good one too that we've recently watched. Comparatively, our shows are predictably boring, mediocre, talentless and horribly filmed. I absolutely despise the way the camera 'moves' & 'bounces' around as if a child is filming it. And they may as well be. Total amateurish garbage and you get sea sick after a while. Also, this business of shoving the camera or zooming in too close is obnoxious as hell. There's not much to like pop culturally in America right now. Hasn't been for years. Music and the way it's produced is another great example  :-(  Jamie Cullum, Amy Winehouse, 'The Coral' & Gordon Ramsay are the only modern entertainers I like today and surprise (not)... they're all from the U.K.  lol

Awesome, thanks for the Peep Show tip. Am vaguely aware of the other two, but have not watched with much attention paid (ie: successively). Will have to look into those more...
