There's 2 reasons why she doesn't need the help ;-)

She's definitely outgrown her Sydney Shanowski character :-D

--edit--
They've changed Starscream's voice :-(

Megatron isn't a gun, not sure what the hell he is, but he's still cool.

Bumblebee isn't a Beetle anymore, but his character is still the same.

Oh, and Prime is still Prime - Cullen is back! :-D :-D :-D

They've changed Starscream's voice

Chris Latta, the actor who did Starscream's voice all those episodes, died a long time ago in 1994. Also, Megatron is done by another actor as well, Frank Weller who did the original Megatron wasn't used...

Megatron isn't a gun, not sure what the hell he is, but he's still cool.

Some kind of plane I believe.

Bumblebee isn't a Beetle anymore, but his character is still the same.

VW didn't allow them to use a beetle for Bumblebee.. Hence the scene where he hits a VW.

Biggest things I missed or didn't like.

To little time for Megatron. No bickering (sp?) / powerstrugle between Starscream and Megatron.

No Soundwave (not in the way he was in the anim).

The ability to chance into something different. In the original they were "stuck" between robot or 1 disguise. Here we see Bumblebee change from old model into a new model and "Soundwave" turns from a radio in a mobile phone.

All in all, good introduction to Transformers for those who didn't watch the original show, a reasonable film for those who do. They say a part 2 and 3 are comming. I hope they do more with Starscream vs Megatron.. Personally I would have liked to see them redo "More Than Meets the Eye" (the first 2 episodes)

(I guess I should say... BUMP...  :-P )

why on earth wouldnt vw let them use the bug, free pr from a popular character.

in the original series the arc sent out a bot to get designs for the tranformers so that they could be in disguise. they downloaded them and reformed. at one point i think they went back to cybertron and for a while got cybertronian forms.

my older brother has the entire series on dvd i got to borrow it.
Oh yeah?!?
Well your stupid bit is set,

AFAIK, they wanted them to pay to use it. Free PR isn't always a pro. (What if the movie was horrible.. Bad PR for VW as well then perhaps)

Yeah, that's right. But in the movie it is done without effort and in seconds. In the series it took a while and considerable effort and a machine.

iirc they didn't want another herbie comparison.

Why is Bumblebee not a VW Beetle?
Several reasons have been given for the change.

One of the reasons is because producers couldn't get rights from VW to use a Beetle. VW didn't want their product being associated with a violent film.

In an interview with Wired Magazine, Michael Bay also stated that he made the change because he wanted the mass of the Transformers in robot form to be believable compared to their vehicle form, and thus a VW would have resulted in Bumblebee being much smaller in robot form.

Another reason is that Bay wanted to avoid comparisons to Herbie the Love Bug, and that he felt that Bumblebee needed an updated look. Thus, Bumblebee was changed from a VW Beetle to a Camaro.

We do briefly see Bumblebee next to an old (1971) VW Beetle early on in the film, however, in a nod to his past.

Yeah, I know he's no longer around, but they've changed his voice completely.  His voice just blends in with the others which I thought was a bit naff.

I know they wouldn't have been able to get the exact voice from the comics, but something different that actually goes with his name would've been better than the voice he has in the film.

It's not like Starscream had a lot of text in the movie anyway..  :pissed:
