Heard about black ingvars? They made black/deathmetal versions of "dansband" songs, became cult vorspiel songs  :lol:

Talking of Swedish music - The Hives are very popular here in the UK. Not as a 'pop' band so much as an alternative band.

mid-90s  contemporary with Smurf Hits, yes I have heard them. Besides isn´t almost every drummer in the younger "dansbanden" a hardrocker who could find a job as hardrock drummer:-)
