040/060 adapter for Amiga Classic
The superMatze version
Brand New, factory soldering
Tested on my world famous MK2@105, works fine
For A3640, WarpEngine, CyberStorm MK2, GVP cards...
- With an 68LC060, the adapter will work fine with Kick 3.0 & 3.1
- With a true 68060, the adapter will need a Kickstart with a special exec.library
For working, you must install the 68060.library v46.7 from Phase5 in Sys:Libs/
or the MMU package from Thor (on Aminet)
60 euros + 2 euros shipping EU Priority no tracking in friend/gift Paypal mode
or + 2.60 euros for WW
:)

I'm interested in this adapter. I live in The Netherlands.
How much is it with tracking?

Another question: I read about that the new kickstart ROMs from Cloanto has a new Exec.library. Has this ROMs have the right Exec.library?
Quote:
Kickstart 3.X (rev. 45.xx)
as used in Amiga Forever, builds on the original Kickstart 3.1 ROM components and features the following improvements: •Patches originally released under the ESCOM and Gateway Amiga ownership - no SetPatch or reboot required
•scsi.device and exec.library updates by Alexander Benedictov, Chris Hodges, Heinz Wrobel and Toni Wilen
•expansion.library fixes by Jeff Weeks
•FastFileSystem fixes by Etienne Vogt
•mathieeesingbas.library fixes by Harry "Piru" Sintonen
The scsi.device updates included in the 3.X ROM make it possible to boot from disks larger than 4 GB. Additional elements, such as FastFileSystem 45.9 and Installer 44.10, are included in the Classic Support Workbench 3.1 distribution, and complement the ROM-based enhancements.
Please note: In order to make room for the enhancements, the 3.X ROMs employ the same technique used by Commodore for the 4000T ROMs, i.e. ROM space was freed by moving workbench.library out of the ROM. This means that a Libs/workbench.library file must be present on the boot disk. (Cloanto's Classic Support Workbench 3.1 and Amiga OS 3.9 already include the required workbench.library.)

For using this in a 3640 can it be sped past 25mhz? What would be needed?
thanks

The external clock is halved on the 040 so an 060 would run at 50mhz without any mods. For faster speeds you'll need to swap out the crystal for a faster one. It's wise to solder a socket onto the board if you want to try faster crystals. Note the orientation of the crystal before removal. If you put the crystal in the wrong way around it will break but shouldn't damage the board or CPU.

I'm not 100% sure, but no : the little FPU fix at the beginning of the exec.library is not included in this new version...

I like to buy one. I also sent you a PM.

If you have an original Cyberstorm 060 MKII, can it be modified to work with this adapter
so you can use a rev6 060 at say 100MHz, with proper cooling?
In this scenario, can you still use the SCSI adapter?
Is it only the CPU that would be running on 100MHz, while the memory and logic ++ will run at half this speed (50MHz)?
You mention a modified exec.library in ROM, do you need to assemble a new kickstart,
and if yes, where can you get the modified exec.library?

I guess yes. I will try today because I have now some Scsi drives at home...

Yes, you need a new Kickstart with this library into : http://cosmosunivers.free.fr/download/exec_4520b%28A4000%29.readme
:)

Ok,
so:
- remove the 3,3V regulator
- jumper its output pad to 5V
- change the location of 2 resistors (where is this change described?)
- change the oscillator to 100MHz
- replace Amiga ROM with new one with special exec.library
- insert the adapter with rev6 68060 and cooler
and it is ready to go, or did I miss something?
Have you got more units for sale?
Yes ===> http://warpclassic68k.blogspot.fr/2014/08/mk2-68060105-mhz.html

You have to put back your MK2 to his 040 state : http://leblogdecosmos.blogspot.fr/2011/01/mkii-040-060.html
I have only one adapter available !
I try to get the Scsi working, but no... I'm going to see the JMP documentation...

Just to check, as cannot find the info anywhere. Does this require a patched physical kickstart (ie, an EPROM) or can I softkick?
I have a 3640 I'd like to upgrade to an 060.

Softkick impossible, my dear Dan !!
You need my special exec flashed on 2 eproms !
I recommand you Romy to build an 1 Mb Kickstart 3.9, much better than the 3.1, really...

Can the adapter be installed in a A3000D?, the A3640 is unmodified...
I haven't been able to find any previous experiences, seems that all the people has A4000 machines :)

The adapter can be modified to remove the middle socket (but requires technical skill to do it successfully). Many people on Amibay have already done this:
http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?65526-68040-68060-Adapter-%28for-a3640-Warpengine%29-Complete-Kit-NEW-VERSION/page15 (http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?65526-68040-68060-Adapter-%28for-a3640-Warpengine%29-Complete-Kit-NEW-VERSION/page15)
This will allow the 060 adapter to fit in an A3000D. However, there will not be any space left for a heat sink or cooling fan (unless you hack a hole in the floppy drive tray). The 060 should run cool enough at 50MHz but will need some extra cooling for overclocking. ;)
P.S. Any modification or overclocking of the 060 Adapter is at your own risk!

Yes, I did it too here : and I put the regulator upside down...
-
Mechanical modifications are already assumed. No problem in cutting a hole :hammer:
I was mostly thinking in the hardware logic, I know that A3000 are specially nitpicking with A3640 boards. Mine works flawlessly; but I'm worried about the 060 upgrade. I also have your speed hack ready to be assembled in my A3640, I suppose it would be a good thing :-)
About possible overclockings, I can try to reach 60Mhz; it's usually hard to go beyond 30Mhz in the A3000 PCB without fast SIMM rams and other mods, right?
-
I bought the 040/060 adapter from Cosmos and have modified Kickstart ROMs.
I als bought a 68060@50MHz REV1 with heatsink. My 3640 card has been upgraded to rev 3.2 and remove 2 wait states mod.
If I compare my 3660 with a Blizzard 1260 and Cyberstorm PPC, then it gives me 1 mips faster then those Phase 5 cards.
The only problem with this combination is the slow motherboard fastmem.
Will a WarpEngine with a 060@50Mhz have the same memory speed as a Cyberstorm 060@50MHz?

My strategy for saving the Classic was first to improve the actual and existing software & hardware : sadly, all the manufacturers refused to help in any ways...

would it be possible to use a Deneb to store your modified exec? Itwould be easier for me than burning a new rom
I tried this and it did not appear to work; i tried just including the modified exec.library along with the other modules in luciferin, and i tried creating a custom kickstart for the deneb to boot (with algorkick I think): neither worked.
Maybe I was doing it wrong though.

Is this still available?
