I wish I lived near your dumpster. Amiga can be a challenging hobby at times so I understand your frustration. I have an a1200 thats been waiting for parts for like a year, but its a back burner project and real life concerns always come first.

Winuae is very usable and you can forget all the hardware problems and expense...

Try a hobby like operating a steam railroad.  Nothing puts a hobby in perspective than making a century old piece of technology run.

I understand your frustration. The ease of WinUAE makes you want to shove your 20 year old hardware in a closet and forget about it.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

I must be one of the world most careful or just plain jammy Amiga owners ever, I too have been using Amigas since 86 and not once have I ever had one break down on me... :)

My own theory behind this is switch your Amiga on at least once a day or better still don't switch it off at all even if your off on your holidays... it works for me... :)

I take loooong breaks, usually over the summer when I'm busy enjoying the weather. Otherwise it's easy to get burned out. A mildly tweaked miggy for games/demos is pretty doable with little headache, but expanding a big-box to the max is an endless (albeit intriguing) game of solve the riddles.

The only problems Ive ever had with amiga hardware were self induced (ie. punching holes through them out of frustration with games (the Lion King game cost me quite a bit of money, which is silly for many reasons, not the least of which being that it's not even a great game)). Apart from my own stupdity though Ive never had any major problems, and that's including an a1200+bppc+grex+voodoo3 system, which most people tend to say are problematic (although personally Ive yet to see reasons for this reputation). Granted it's dead now, but that's due to dodgey electricity at my house and rapid power fluctuations (pretty costly night that, wasnt only my bppc+grex that died).
Personally I get more frustrated with the "NG" amiga options.
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

Harsh indeed, I'm sure one of us would have driven to pick it up.
Earth has a lot of things other folks might want... like the whole planet. And maybe these folks would like a few changes made, like more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and room for their way of life. - William S. Burroughs

Amiga is probably the most reliable machine I ever owned.

C64....back to shop 3x for this and that (mostly PSU)
Atari ST....loose rom chips nightmare!
Amiga.....blissful ignorance of the existence of engineers :)

Of course I never bought an A500 or A600 el cheapo machines so this may explain it. But then my A1200 is also going strong too (but it's 8 years younger than my A1000 so.....)

I've been a user since 1986. I just tossed most of my Amiga shit in the dumpster. Fuck it. I've spent more time performing repairs than anything else. Time to move on. Winuae.

I can actually relate to that, playing around with classic Amiga stuff can be equal parts rewarding and deeply frustrating....when the bad outweighs the good it's time to move on ;)
Life begins at 100 MIPS!

Nice Ports on AmiNet!

I've only been an Amiga user since 2007 and sometimes I feel like this!

So far I've kept coming back for more, though.
3 Commodore file cabinets, 2 Commodore USB turntables, 1 AmigaWorld beer mug
Alienware M14x i7 laptop running AmigaForever

I'm sure you've probably explained this before (so feel free to just post a link to the post), but what got you into it in 2007?

I think I might've a long ways back, but a quick search doesn't find anything but a one liner from me on the subject.

Basically I started out on a C64 in the mid-80s like so many others, so the names Commodore (and Amiga, from screenshots on gameboxes) were names I saw early.  Eventually in the 90's I got into IT as a career (still doing it today, as well,) and a couple of years ago I was pretty bored with all things computer when I suddenly had the inspiration to check Craigslist for retro stuff.  First item I saw was an Amiga 500+, figured I'd seen enough screenshots of the games and would finally see an Amiga in person.  Messing around with the previously unknown to me hardware and OS kind of got me reinterested in computers in general, it was a good feeling, so I kept right on playing with Amigas (and plenty of other old machines, though Amiga seems to be the only one that stuck.)
