Title: New AROS Live-CD to test USB
Post by: paolone on July 20, 2009, 11:48:45 AM
On the Icaros Desktop's website (http://www.icarosdesktop.org) there is a new custom version of AROS, built to help bugfixing Poseidon - the well known USB stack being open-sourced by Chris Hodges. This is not a Icaros Desktop update, but a Live-CD that anyone (with supported hardware) can use to boot their PCs. USB controllers should be activated automatically upon startup and USB mice/keyboards should work, and the Live-CD provides also OWB and the whole Icaros networking stuff to help testers submitting logs to AROS exec. Interested people can get this custom build of AROS from this link (http://vmwaros.blogspot.com/2009/07/new-test-build-for-poseidon.html), while an updated version of the Icaros Desktop user manual, which can be helpful to set up networking, is available here (http://www.icarosdesktop.com/icarosfiles/IcarosDesktop_manual.pdf).

@Everyone

As this point we have fairly good results in testing UHCI+EHCI configurations, however we are missing OHCI+EHCI tests. If you have such configurations (OHCI will most likelly not be on Intel motherboards) please join the test effort!

No, the direct link is:

But please read the description how tests should be done:

This build actually works better than the official Icaros release for me, tried on 3 machines, a VIA C3, an Athlon64 and an Intel P4... All machines had fully functioning USB with this test image!

Very cool!

@bloodline

Could you please provide information what kind of USB chipset those motherboards have (OHCI/UHCI/EHCI)

This informarmation is available in Trident in controllers tab right to controller name after you click Online on the controller.

Good that it works for you. Next icaros will be built on something similar, but for the time being please use it for USB testing, following the instruction published around the download link... ;-)

Hey, at the same address as before (http://vmwaros.blogspot.com/2009/07/new-test-build-for-poseidon.html) you can find a NEW build from today's system files! Please grab it and follow instructions on the same page to test Poseidon and help us fixing the last bugs.
