No scandoubler needed if you don't go beyond hires. Interlaced, no good.

Not true, all modes available when you put the PAL and NTSC monitor files in devs are available and work well EXCEPT PAL HIRES Interlaced.

NTSC HIRES Interlaced and the lower res interlaced modes, including PAL work great, just the PAL HIGH RES Interlaced had a glitched in the scan lines. It displays fine, but the scns are reversed so the pictures looks strange. Its actually kinda neat to look at, but useless.

I have a 2412 as well, which I use with a scandoubler. I don't think it works without one; it's not 15KHz friendly. It is 50Hz friendly, though, so your (scandoubled) PAL screenmodes will work.

Matt its my understanding that some of the modes on the U2412 also work through the VGA port on this monitor with no flicker fixer.

If someone else has tested the 2412 as 15KHz friendly, then all you should need is the adapter. BUT - see below.

To expand upon David Wright's comment, I have tested the 2320 in 15KHz and it works. Interlace "works" on that display, but the picture quality is very poor. The 2412 may behave similarly.

One important thing to bear in mind: my A2000 would not boot with a generic 23-15pin adapter plugged in. Something to do with a missing genlock signal if I remember the discussion here about it. The official Commodore "silverbox" adapters contain additional logic that circumvents that issue and work fine. Those generic adapters work fine on AGA Amigas however. I don't know if other ECS Amigas behave like the A2000 with the straight-through generic adapters.

The Amibay thread you linked refers to a version of the adapter with buffered sync that seems to serve as a drop-in replacement for the Commodore adapter. You may want to get one of those.

Certainly possible! I can't remember if I tested it and since I've been using a scandoubler I thought it must have been because it wasn't compatible

Can give it a test when my A/V module arrives ;)

Terry Carter is making direct clones of the original Commodore VGA adapters. He can be found in the Commodore Amiga Group on facebook. He is US based and isn't asking much for them. I got the first one I believe and he even does a 3D printed case for them.

Thanks for all of your input so far.

So, over on amibay I have been told that

A1200 <> NON-BUFFERED ADAPTER <> DELL U2412M

will work. I am in Europe so I would prefer to either get one from:
- the amibay thread
- http://amigastore.eu/en/207-amiga-rgb-to-vga-monitor-adapter.html
- http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=183

1. Which one would you go for?

Thanks.

Either should work fine. The amigastore.eu one uses a real 23 pin connector, so that might be preferable.

Hi All.  Just saw some of these on eBay.  But they are the Dell UltraSharp 24" U2410F.
Wondering if the "F" model is different, or they fixed the 15khz works "glitch";  As has happened on so many monitors before.  Any hints?

It looks like the eBay link ASCII OP'd is to the U2410F version.

I have the "F". I found that those letters after the name only designate the different markets where it's sold. Internals should be the same.

What is this 15KHz glitch? I can test whatever you like.

No, what I meant was generally VGA monitors only go down to 31Khz.  But monitors that also handle S-Video and/or Component input will sometimes use the same video input allowing 15k on the VGA input. (Bingo for Amiga users) This is often considered a 'glitch' ( as VGA should only go down to 31khz) and is fixed on future releases, IE v2.  It's the bain of Amiga users.

I've been bitten before on a V2 of another TV/Monitor.

Oh, I see :)

Well I can tell you that Dell 2408 has S-Video (and composite), and those two inputs do display PAL image. However, the VGA does not (only 31+).

2410(F), on the other hand, doesn't have an S-Video port. But it handles PAL picture just fine via VGA (syncs to 15/50).

Hope this helps :)

My cheapy Gateway KX2153 15KHz monitor bit the big one tonight. :( So went looking for a Dell UltraSharp U2410. I found a U2410F for $72 + shipping. The guy says it's mint and includes a Dell sound bar! The pics looked great!

I got to looking at the specs and it states that you can connect two different sources to the two DVI inputs for "picture in picture". How cool is that! Two different Miggys at the same time! Not sure if the DVI ports will display at 15KHz though. We shall see. :)
