Is there any Amiga500 "sidecar" Zorro IDE-Adaptor?
« on: March 12, 2018, 12:03:42 AM »
Hi.
Can someone guide me to a Zorro slot Amiga500 "sidecar" IDE adaptor, wich will boot with an Kickrom 2 (37.300/37.350).

I am looking for one to buy (in the near future) from EU, that are able to run with the IDE code that are in the 2.0 kickrom.

The reason for me saying EU, are that there will be put a lot of import charges and vatt from goods, bought outside of the EU, if the item price is higher than 13 US Dollars. (That is sadly the thing with the Danish state)

There's a few others listed on that site, try poking around there.

Although you just want IDE, you might find a more modern solution with one that fits under the cpu (as opposed to the side expansion slot).

https://www.amedia-computer.com/en/accueil/267-amiga-500-hc508-accelerator-card.html

This place is expensive...you can probably find it less elsewhere.  50MHz 68000, 8 megs RAM, CF IDE, and IDE port.

Or, there is this, which is internal:

http://amigastore.eu/en/597-wicher-500i-accelerator.html#/

There is also a guy on Amibay (DJCOOK) who is selling assembled TF530 cards, which have 2mb fast RAM, an 030, and IDE.

Most sidecar controllers are just rebranded zorroII equivalent controllers. Most are also made in some form of A2000 controller as well.

And they are rare as hell nowdays

If you really want, specifically, an A500 sidecar for IDE devices (and not something newer like an ACA500 or Vampire, or one of the Kipper boards from a couple years ago), try posting a "wanted" ad on a forum such as Amibay.  I would check somewhere like the Amiga Hardware Database website or BBOAH and look for the specific item that meets your needs, and ask for it there.  Chances are someone may still have one collecting dust somewhere.  Good luck!  :)

Budha would be the best option for IDE, INMHO

this works well:

i have one and simple cf adapters work with cf cards on it.it has 40 and 44 pin header,so if you use a 44pin cf adapter, it powers it.
also has a place for ram.

There are 2 versions. one take zip ram,one takes simms.. simms are cheaper, but either is fine.
it also works under kick1.3 and autoboots as well as 3.1

probably the easiest thing to find in Europe.

I was thinking along the lines of this: http://www.bigbookofamigahardware.com/bboah/product.aspx?id=1362

They're scarce as hen's teeth, though.  I haven't seen any the last few years on eBay.

Thanks for all the input folks.... Looks like I need to save up for the HC508 thing. I would just have loved something like that, yet without the CPU that are on it. You know... Something more of a pure product. Unless the CPU can be disabled.

It is not a zorro based ide.
But since those are scarce at best. this might be a decent alternative. At least it will provide you with autoboot IDE in an A500 sidecar....

This has been my solution for IDE on Zorro... I bought a Zorro extender from Rob Cranley over at EAB and he still has a few boards left. As you can see, I have a Buddha IDE & TruIDE inserted with a Subway USB module (think this rig will work guys? I'm gonna try!). I also have the IDE4Zorro card which works well with 4GB DOMs. It might not be what you're looking for but is rather versatile and not all that expensive! You can use any Zorro card with it. It really works best with a 3.1 ROM though. There's also the IDE4Zorro board.

Thanks! A lot of thought went into it! (Not really) :)

Animals & l'il ones that chew.... :nervous: Well, the only reason I bought the Zorro extender was to test/play with Zorro cards (oh, and it was made by Rob the Nerd!) so they are never a permanent part of the A500. I sorta use all this stuff like Lego blocks. :laugh1:

This is my AmiDreamClone... if this never materializes I think it will be (IMHO) the let down of the century. :(
