Consistent issue with Sam460LE and Ibrowse 2.58 / Network.
« on: June 10, 2023, 05:47:25 AM »
Finally managed to get my new Sam460LE all set up, with the following hardware;
Radeon R9 280X, Sil3114 sata card, DVDRW, 1tb SSD, and an Audigy FX card.

Problem is, after installing the Enhancer 2.2, Radeon HDv5 driver, and running into an issue with the newer Dir command that breaks the updater...

I've discovered a rather odd bug.  First (and this seems to be semi-consistent) on first boot up, the network doesn't work correctly.  It'll resolve a host (I try 'ping yahoo.com') but it won't actually respond to pings.  After a reboot, that works fine.

I can leave the pings running in the shell, but when I open up Ibrowse 2.5.8 PPC version (registered), I can click on the os4depot button, do a search for 'mplayer' but as soon as I click on one of the .lha links, network freezes / stops responding to Pings, and Ibrowse will eventually time out on trying to load the page.  This is repeatable, I've done it about 7 times.  Only way I have seen to be able to bring the network back online is to reboot the computer.

Anyone else run into something similar to this?  When I use OWB, it works fine, and I can download things from os4depot.

I have the exact same issue.

I can run the Sam460le all day streaming music, browsing with OWB or Netsurf without any issues - however using Ibrowse 2.5.8 knocks out the network forcing a reboot. I have tried the OEM version from 4.1, the latest version 2.5.8 and even 68k versions, all end up causing the network to crash.

The OS4 networking stack, "Roadshow", is ridden with old bugs and cannot be updated because Hyperion cannot be bothered, it is currently way behind the OS3/68k build.

Heck, there even was the OS4.1 FE update 2, without any Roadshow updates, from what I understand because of lack of communication by Hyperion, so Olsen didn't manage to prepare it in time.

Now, if Roadshow for OS4 could be sold as a separate product, like it is on 68k...

For what it's worth, my OS4 systems also have the problem you describe, only with totally different hardware, and also other software, for example AmTelnet.

Hi Everyone,

I do not have this problem with my AmigaOne 500.  I changed a setting in Ibrowse, don't remember what is was, and it solved it.

However, a couple of questions about roadshow.

Since the OS 4 version is so behind, can you install the 68k version on OS4?  Also, I heard that the enhancer pack is going to come with it's own TCP/IP program in the future, any truth to that?

Yogi

I asked Olsen about that, but he wouldn’t recommend it. But it is something that should be tested.
I may do it during vacation in July…
