Was quite surprise to get a tweet from Amiga inc that they have launched a number of apps of classic Amiga games for the blackberry, quite surprise by some of the titles, did they really get permission from team17 and other companies to relaunch these games.

Is it me, or is it just plain weird to even see something from Amiga Inc that is actually purchasable?

Those are some classics, but on the Blackberry? Why not on iOS and Android or better yet XboxLive and PSN? Those markets have to be hundreds of times larger than Blackberry at this point.
-
Maybe they're just walking off together to the tech company burial ground?
-
Sadly it looks like they are selling pirated software going by the posts on Amigaworld as at lest one of the rights holders has complained.
Hopefully its just a misunderstanding but I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Exactly. Loser picks loser......at least the track record is consistent! LOL

As a bit of technology, the PlayBook is pretty sweet, albeit doomed to failure.
-
It was probably done on Playbook becasue that runs an OS based on QNX, the same OS Amiga was using, IIRC, for the basis for their DE.
Amusingly Team 17 has a remake of Alien Breed for iOS thats pretty good. It includes the original Amiga levels as well as new content and the controls are a bit updated, with two virtual joysticks you can move and fire in different directions.
The Blackberry Playbook games are exact to the Amiga games, with the on screen virtual joystick made to look very CD32 Competition pro like, and a fire button on the right instead of second joystick.
Yes, as you can tell I bought them for both, any chance to hace Amiga games on my person to play anytime I want is taken gladly especially at these low prices.

DE was based off Tao (Intent), not QNX. AmigaOSXL (aka Amithlon) was based off QNX.
-
Yeah, the Amiga-QNX relationship was only a proposal. I don't think a line of code was ever written.

Wasn't this even before Big Mac got involved? I wanna say the QNX stuff happened right after Gateway, but I can't remember, it's been so long ago.
-
Thats right, Tao was licensed for Amiga DE. QNX was earlier when Gateway was actually still working on a new Amiga OS for PowerPC processor based boards before they ran from the project to hide in their cow print boxes and hope no one wanted hamburgers.
Now, Blackberry is hopeing to release phones based on QNX next year, which their Playbook is already based on.

A RIM guy demonstrated one where I work, and it IS pretty snazzy. Just not sure RIM will be around that much longer.

Maybe just maybe this is Amiga's way of covertly announcing their bid for the Blackberry company!
-
Why not iOS? Because Apple doesn't allow emulators.
That's my guess. Given that Amiga, Inc. doesn't have a lot of technical know-how, but does have a willingness to, erm....how to say this...I don't know they seem to specialize in brashness and losing legal battles.
So - what makes the most sense to me - and this is purely speculation, is that someone wrote an Amiga emulator, Amiga, Inc. got ahold of someones work in that area... Amiga, Inc. is packaging up the original binaries, hiding the emulation - and you know enough hooks to use the touch screen for control.
To the user, its a faithful reproduction of the original game...all guesswork, but with Amiga, Inc. you don't necessarily just guess they got a license and had the knowledge to do a port :) If anything, that's an even crazier guess.

Whoops I should have read more, before commenting.
One of the commenters at Blackberry said the game, is in fact, the original version running under modified UAE.
-
I was stunned their website had been updated.
The picture does look pretty nice and the tagline "kickstart some fun" had me excited until I found out what it was.
Kind of makes me want a playbook though.

Some interesting information linking Bill McEwen to RIM has been found:

Maybe he was pretending to be a real enterprise customer.

Yeah, I knew that when I picked mine up at a discounted rate but I just sold it recently because of the lack of apps.
Trust my luck, I sell it just when Amiga games become available. I loved some of those classics:

Feels bad, man :)

I'll say! Like seeing a dog in cat pajamas! :furious:

I think games were all removed...
Maybe someone knows where to get the .bar files...

This is the company that owns them and they are making steep 99.997 % fall in shares so I don't think it will be easy.

What a bunch of dbags. :p

On an unrelated note, wth is "Fleecy's World"? Hahahaha. :p

The "business partners" either don't exist or don't have anything to do with computers. One is a Spanish language woman's fashion site....
Another is the team that was going to play in the Amiga dome or whatever they were going to name it. Frankly an embarrassing thing to put on their page.
