Title: Amiga 1200 internet
Post by: swift240 on November 20, 2012, 11:40:45 PM
Hi all,
After setting up my Amiga 1200 in  a Power Tower case again, I decided to go back to its original keybard and desktop case. To by honest the Power Tower was very unstable and it gave me more problems that it solved, but now its back in its original setup its stable as can be.

Well ok thats not the issue.......................

I have a WIFI router and it also does cable to. A Pluscom router WR-AR2317
I want to get my Amiga 1200 back on the Internet mostly for Aminet and a few Emails here and there.

What is my best option here?

1:- WIFI
2:- Cable

If WIFI then what will I need exactly?

If cable then again what will I need?

I have OS3.9 installed so Genesis will be there to use.

TIA,

Mike.

If you are going WiFi read this forum here http://amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=63328 it have the solution and works 100% to getting your A1200 online via WiFi.

If you are going cable however, it is simple configuration and you should have it ready online in less 5 minutes.

Which is better? Cable of course. However, if you cannot do cable for whatever reason like me for example, then you are forced to go WiFi. In that case, click that link and read the solution how to get your Amiga WiFi.

Ok thank you for that info, to be more in detail, I shall be going the PCMCIA way.
So what exactly do I need to get as for that?

Everything you need to know what to get and what to do was in that link I send you. All you had to do was read it thoroughly and you are set. But to summarize again for you I have put it in a bullet point list:

. NetGear MA401 "One 100% compatible card with WPA/WPA2 is NetGear MA401 which I owe and works perfectly on my WPA2 network for my A600 :)" quote from mfilos.

. http://bytemyvdu.wordpress.com/2012/02/08/the-internet-and-an-amiga-a1200-prism2v2-drivers-wpawpa2/ use this guide to patch up the card and make it compatible and functioning to your A1200.

. Get the necessary drivers from aminet (available there).

Use MiamiDX or any software like that for A1200 and you are set.

+1 for the netgear MA401, got one here :)
works fine with WEP, last i heard that for the drivers to support WPA/2, it was a cost option. but still an option. if they've been made freely available, i may have a reason leave the old 802.11b option ticking over on the router since my last Ninty DS has need passed on the niece's / nephews, and have since switched off WEP...

if you want a wifi driver and IP stack set, then amigakit do their "easynet" software bundle, which works really well :) and isn't time limited like others.
