Pin 1 A1200 hd interface
« on: February 04, 2021, 05:58:28 PM »
Hi

Pin 1 is missing from one of my A1200 hd interfaces on the motherboard. The computer has missing shielding and also has the ribbon and power connectors for a 3.5" drive. I have a feeling this was often done when using certain types of drives. Not sure to be honest. I don't think the missing pin is a break I think its deliberate. What are your thoughts. Also will a 2.5" drive work without the missing pin.

Many thanks.

With pin 1 in place, every time you do a system reboot, the disk will also do a reset and spin down and back up again. Since it used to be a common problem that disks would not spin back up fast enough before the A600/A1200 gave up waiting, it was common to cut pin 1 to prevent the disk from spinning down at all on reset. I typically did this by cutting pin on the cable.
