ATX Adapter
« on: July 09, 2017, 07:50:21 AM »
Curious if anybody has done an ATX adapter for the A1200. If you had something that plugged into each of the ports on the back of the A1200, turned the leads into something that fit a normal back panel plate for a tower, as well as something that the motherboard could screw onto that provided proper ATX mounting screw locations, it seems like it would be quite useful.

Does anything like this exist?

There have been a few tower conversion kits that so this to some extent or other, though the majority seem to expose the A1200 backplane.

GadgetMaster's custom tower conversion was rather interesting in that he chose to mount the motherboard at 90 degrees and used cables to route all the ports to the back of the case. It meant that his accelerator card extended to the back of the case and was removable via an access cover without opening the whole case.

I can't remember seeing one that maps everything to a standard atx style set of ports but it should be possible to route some of them.

I think the only ATX adaptor kit made for sale is that adaptor to use ATX powersupply on A1200.

Not in stock though.

The rest I think will be a DIY project. Here are some examples, but perhaps not made with ATX cases.

As for commercial options, this is the only A1200 tower I have found for sale:
Elbox BlackBOX 1200.

It is expensive though, at 300 EUR. No wonder why people want to do it on their own. And to make it useful, you probably should add a PCI adaptor board as well. And then you would be ready to buy the next useful stuff like a gfxcard, soundcard, usb-card, ethernet-card. Now you are close to 850 EUR. And you would probably also need an adaptor for connecting an exernal keyboard as well.

I never made any form of adapter. But i did desolder all cables and made an "adoption" to fit a small 180W psu inside the amiga 500 PSU shell. it worked quite nicely til one day it went up in a loud boom with blue sparks and white smoke....

Need to find a new psu. (oh.. the a 500 seems to still work just fine.)
