you could use playCDDA or songplayer.

I remember some CDROM drives allow the player to play through the SCSI cable

Thanks for the pointers guys. A hardware solution is not an option as I am using a slimline device from Vesalia with no audio out on it.
I have tried cdda, and I am getting audio from the CD alas the left speaker only. I have tried various settings in AHI including switching to mono but cannot seem to get it to play out of both speakers. I will have a go of Songplayer..

My poor old 1221 accelerator is struggling though. On the Vampire waiting list ;-)

Depending on how Vesalia configured the unit, there might be an adapter like this inside the case, which has an audio-out plug. Then you could hook up a cable and route it outside. Unfortunately, you'd probably need to modify one end of it to hook up RCA jacks or a 3.5mm stereo connector--I can't seem to find any pre-built cables like that. Or maybe Amigakit could do a custom one for you, since they used to sell them.
