amiga 1200/ Indivision AGA mk2 problems
« on: January 28, 2016, 01:28:50 AM »
Hello all,

i finally got back into the Amiga universe by purchasing a nice package:

Amiga 1200 Escom version
AGA1200Mk2
ACA1230
CF drive

I am having issues with connecting the Amiga to my LCD TV:

Using a DVI to HDMI cable i can boot into the preferences (holding down the two mouse buttons or either button) and change to PAL/NTSC, but once i boot up the screen goes black and i get the "No Signal" message...I have't found a way to connect the amiga directly to my tv and have it work, yet...so the next option is...

The Amiga also came with an OREI XD990 HDMI to NTSC box, which seems to work (although no audio) if i connect the DVI to HDMI to it, but there's noticeable lag.

Am i doing something wrong?

What would be the most elegant way to connect my Amiga to my LCD tv and enjoy old games?

Do i need to purchase one of those expensive Framemeister thingies :) ?

Thanks in advance for all toyed help...love the forum and i am thankful for such community!

The Indivision should allow you to to connect to your display without any additional hardware.  When you say:
What screenmode do you have selected in Workbench?  The Indi should automatically convert most standard screenmodes to display, but I can see it being possible to screw with it if you have some really odd screenmode set.

As a test, try a regular DVI monitor instead of going through a DVI-to-HDMI adapter?

Or this, for straight HDMI output from the Indi:

Hi,

i am not sure i know how to check the settings of the Indi/Workbench at bootup: If i hold down both mouse buttons i only get the option to switch between pal and ntsc, if i hold down the left button or the right button i get other options but none seem to deal with resolution.

Could you guide me through  this process, please? Thank you! All i ever knew to do was popping in disks in my amiga 500 :)

Unfortunately i have no other monitor to test it with at this time .

Thanks in advance!

"boot to early startup and then boot with no startup sequence.
then rename
SYS:Prefs/Env-Archive/Sys/screenmode.prefs
to someting else. you could delete it but you may need it later. then reboot.."

Might be what you need?

thank you...i'll give this a try and report back!

That worked, although it seems i need to play with the right resolution. Would you happen to know the best/recommended one for an LCD tv?

Also, how do I get sound out of the DVI to HDMI?

Almost there...thanks again for all the help.

I got indivision mk 2, and I still channel my music/sound thru the normal audioports.

Subscribed!

Unfortunately this isn't possible since my TV and/or receiver don't allow for mixing/pairing analog audio ins with HDMI inputs.

I guess i am stuck with no audio?

DVI doesn't carry an audio signal.  You need one of the cables like this:

If I was using an A1200 through HDMI on a modern LCD TV (which I'm assuming your TV is widescreen), I would try the HD720 mode.  1280x720, with AGA you can do up to 256 colors (ECS limits it to 4 colors), but it can be pretty chip ram intensive.

See this thread from a few days ago for more suggestions on screenmodes, also cooling tips:  www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=70374

Thank you.

That cable wouldn't work for me unfortunately as the TV doesn't allow pairing of Analog audio in with HDMI in for some reason....

I cannot seem to find HD720 in OS 3.1...should i use the OS3.9 boot CF card i was provided and see if it's there?

Thanks!

No, the RCA jacks plug into your Amiga, and transmit the data over the HDMI cable.  So you'll need a setup like this:

Ahhh that makes sense.

Guess i'll wait for a reply from  kipper2k for the HDMI converter, then order such cable. Do you know where i can find it for sale?

Thanks again for all your help. Very useful info!

got it. We'll see what he says.

What happens if he is not able to provide either? Do i have other solutions to send audio to HDMI?

Thanks!

No prob. :)

Kipper2k is swamped making the Vampire 2 boards, but hopefully still has a few of those cables laying around.  ;)

One other idea that others have done is to remove the RF module and put the HDMI jack there.  I think this a very clean setup, personally, but I know some folks are all "blah blah don't remove the RF output", even though no one ever uses it anymore, haha.  ;)

Success!

less than ideal, but i was able to connect HDMI straight to TV and run audio through the receiver independently.

Thanks all for the help!
