QUESTION about: ON/OFF Switch for Amiga Accelerators Commodore,GVP
« on: September 08, 2010, 09:10:41 PM »
I just bought one of these on ebay:  ON/OFF Switch for Amiga Accelerators Commodore,GVP.  It is basically a toggle switch connected to a slot bracket cover, with two wires coming out of the switch.  I believe it hooks up to one of the jumpers on my GVP accelerator.  Does anybody know where I hook it up or how it is supposed to be connected.  My GVP accelerator is this model:  Impact A2000-030 Combo, 68882 @ 22 / 33 MHz, PLCC surface mounted.  Thanks.

I imagine it connects to J2

That is the feature you most want to switch on/off so you can boot 68000 and play games from disk.

Actually, the model on that link is a different one that I have.  On the model I have, it says that the Jumper in question is #6.  I hooked the switch up but it didn't do a stinking thing.

I'll try it on number 6 and see what happens.

Ah you've got this model :

Yup I think your switch should connect to J6. When the switch is closed it should boot with the 68030 and with it open it should boot from the 68000.

Obviously you cannot switch dynamically. Power off, switch, power on.

Well, I tried hooking up to J6 but nothing happened, it still booted into 68030 mode.  I tried the switch in both positions but no change....68030 mode only.  The only way I can get it to boot to 6800 mode is by using the 6800 Boot software while in Workbench.  Very disturbing.  I keep experimenting.

Of course, do not operate your switch with the computer ON. Otherwise you will get permanent 68000 mode and a new door stop labeled "Great Valley" :)

I did turn the computer off and back on with the toggle switch in both positions but it still turns on in 68030 mode.  Maybe it is a differnt jumper I need to use.
