What's the deal with the ROXXLER chip on the Cybervision64?
« on: December 01, 2006, 08:58:11 AM »
Soon enough, I am gonna have an A4000 on the mail, with amongst other things, a Cybervision64 rtg inside...
So I was wondering, is there any special software using this planar->chunky chip? I know there is an option on CGX to "use roxxler" but does it just work? let's say you play ADOOM/rtg or Abuse/rtg , will it use the roxxler or the software must have support for it?   :-?

I have the feeling it is not that good, I mean wouldn't have put that on later gfx cards, like the cv64/3d, or the bvision/cvision ppc???
any info on this?  :-)

Games typically need c2p that is chunky-to-planar. AFAIK Roxxler is the reverse, thus it is not used by typical game requiring c2p.

CGX itself uses it, when applicable (CGX itself sometimes needs to convert planar to chunky).
