A1200 & A600 HD caddys
« on: June 16, 2005, 09:39:41 AM »
Quick Question, is the stock Hard drive, caddy and cable in an A600 exactly the same as the one inside an A1200? I'm looking at the possibility of buying an A600 just to get the hard drive caddy and cable for one of my A1200's.
Thanks Andrew

Yes, cradle and cable is the same, but it sounds a bit expensive to buy a computer just to get a cable and cradle.

I'm sure someone has one left over from towering an A1200, unfortuanately I haven't :-( The cable is a standard 2.5" hdd cable.

I need them, too. I guess it shouldn't be hard to make one if we had dimensions.
BTW, I bought second hand A1200 without HDD and the seller convinced me it was part of HDD and not A1200, thief :pissed:
Better sorry than worry.

Thanks for that. Hopefully I'll be able to get the A600 for a reasonable price. Otherwise it's back to the drawing board.

You really don't need the stock hd cradle.  Just make a non-conducting box out of plastic or card stock to place your harddrive on so it doesn't short or knock around.  2.5" cables are easy to come by and cheaper than buying a whole computer.  You probably are going to want to buy an ide adaptor at some point to use 3.5" drives (like a cd rom) so there's even more reason to think twice about you spend your money (unless you just want a stock vintage machine).

I'd like to say they're *not* the same.  The A1200 cradle I bought for my A600 doesn't fit - it's too tall and doesn't line up with the holes on the motherboard.

I confirm what icbrkr said.  The caddys/cradles are NOT the same.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Yes, they are different: the A1200 caddy doesn't fit into A600 mobo, but A600 cradle fits perfectly into A1200 mobo.

Can you confirm that the only difference between the two is that the A1200 caddy is taller than the A600 caddy.
