"Elbox 1200/0-8" for A1200
« on: June 07, 2005, 03:27:57 PM »
Hi, I was looking for memory expansion possibilities for my new A1200. Is the one mentioned in the subject worth purchasing? I would just need a little more memory and maybe a faster processor, won't towerize. Thanks in advance!

Get a second hand Blizzard 1230 board in stead. That way you have the possiblity to add SCSI controller later on, install a 128 MB ram module and your Amiga will be quite a bit faster than it is now.

The Blizzard board has more features than the Elbox card, and it runs fine in a desktop A1200. Chances are that you might be able to find a Blizzard 1230 for the price of the Elbox card.

With the memory card you'll get roughly double the performance out of the A1200, which might be enough for your needs.
But, with 8mb on the card you wont be able to add any more if you need it, or use the PCMCIA slot for a network or SCSI adapter, or add a faster CPU.

Like Doctorq said, low end accelerator cards go pretty cheap and give you more room for future upgrades. Just depends what you want to do with your amiga, and how much you're willing to spend.
