No more BAD SMELL!
No more BAD SMELL!
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: I bought this A2000 second hand, and it used to smell badly (tobacco). Cleaning everything didn't help, so I had to do this. I guess removing the fan would have the same effect..
Still, some of the (clean) air DOES get through

well after using it extensively for few months, nothing much 'got caught', here is the photo (3Mb)

unfortunately, some smell still gets through. maybe I should soak it in perfume :-)

um, sorry to disappoint you but I barely used it in those 4 years, its my 'backup' A2000..
I'll use it some more now, and post photos after a while.

After a few months you should post a pic of the underside of that gauze so we can see what you trapped...

Let's see what it looks like after 4 years!

whaaa

Just let it run for awhile, the smoke smell will go away eventually. When i worked in a rapair shop, i saw all kinds of smoking horrors. Smoking + cats + dusty place == hardcore crust on fans. I saw crap embeded into head sink fins and around fans that were like pummice, no joke. Hard and crusty.

Unlubricated freon (aka tuner cleaner) and a soft toothbrush should do the trick for cleaning the goo off the board. Dow bathroom cleaner for the case.

Activated charcoal sandwiched in between that cheese cloth probably would have eliminated all the smell.

I couldn't help thinking of a baby in a nappy there...

But if it works, what the hell.  After a few months you should post a pic of the underside of that gauze so we can see what you trapped...

When I had a smelly computer, I went to Big Lots...it's this closeout store.  I bought like 20 coconut air fresheners for a dollar.  They overpowered the smell, and hey, the computer room was like my own private island.

Or something.
