| December 16, 2007, 02:13:20 AM Having more than one 1541 drive is about as useful as a RAM expansion. I had 4 of them for a while just because I always wanted to do that. *Almost* nothing actually supports disks in any drive that's not #8. Other than size/weight/magnetic field, what's better about the 1541-II? I never had one. I once wrote a set of programs that ran ON the 1541 drive. I could do all kinds of things with the C64 turned off. But, it was screwey because turning off the C64 would reset the drive and kill the program, so you had to unplug the cable first. GEOS came with the C64C I bought new way back when. So did Quantum Link. It must have came with other things too because everyone I knew had a GEOS disk, even the guys with D64's (original C64s, we called them Dinosaur 64's) and no one really used GEOS for anything. You know, building a RAID with 1541s would actually be really easy to do! A fun project for someday when I set up my C64 again. |

So the 64C, 1541-II drive, and GEOS were bundled together? Cool. I might be interested in getting a pair of these, in the boxes. I suspect you plan to sell them, eventually? |
