Very nice! The one thing that has bothered me all the years since using a modern Amiga like system, a real amiga with major upgrades and even emulation that has stopped me from even bothering to get word processors and office tool to run well is the lack of modern printing. This is still a problem even today. Is something being done to pair a modern printing solution with a new release of Final Writer?

Tim has been working on Gutenprint for AROS, can't remember if he's doing a MorphOS version as well.

The 68K version was already able to produce output on morphos

Final Writer has had built in PostScript printing (in color) since the 1990's; what "modern printing solution" do you require?

Other than the obvious joke, what is an "office tool?"

Modern as in not emulating HP printers from days past. I havent been able to print from a new printer properly in ages. Its not an easy task to get working and should be made easier.

Does PostScript emulate old HP printers? PCL now goes up to version 6, but why bother when all [my] modern printers use PS?

If a printer supports PS it supports PS,  you don't need to emulate anything.  Is the issue more getting the OS to recognise the printer so you can print to it ?   Would have thought that printers all conform to the same standards for the standard features ?

Look at that shelf in top left of photo - yes, full of cd's. Highly unlikely in 1989.

That polaroid was actually the first thing I noticed though....:)

Hmm.. my Amigas are networked and I've just printed to network printers with lpr.device or netprinter.device... at least then I don't need to worry about OS recognising :) So far my printers have worked just fine with HP laserjet drivers (they haven't been HP, but printers seem generally to work with it) or by printing postscript directly to them. If either of them wouldn't have worked, at least other printer had such printer server that I just could upload text files with ftp to it and it'd had printed them on its own :)

Anyway, I don't think there has been much problems with Amiga printing ever or now, if you just have a little more expensive printer than just the cheapest Windows only bulk printer...

Yes, on closer inspection, I suppose that smartphone could actually be a black cassette tape box. Then there's the VHS tapes, the VCR and the old TV. Plus, he's wearing a wrist watch, and what looks like a wind up as it has a tall glass dial. Strange photo indeed!

Both you guys are drunk. Not a smartphone, more likely a remote control for the TV and are you kidding about the CD's in 1989? I had dozens of them by that time and I was still a teenager! CD format was released in what, 1982. By the mid 80's, had my own machine. Late 80's, worked at a CD only store, who went with the LIFT display system. European design, which allowed you flip through the cd's one by one, like LP's. Very cool stuff!

Thought it might be a remote, but thinking since it's next to makeup brushes, probably a woman's compact or cassette tape? Too small to be a VHS or Beta tape.

Scratch that, not makeup brushes, but a plastic tipped dart missing its flight. I'm betting that's a dart case and you better you better you bet that'd be something you'd see in a dorm back then!

I agree.  I can't believe that we're debating that any black rectangle in a 1980s/90s photo must be a smart phone from the FUTURE!  Steve Jobs didn't invent the rectangle shape.

And in 1989 I entered university with a room mate who had a CD player and acquired at least that many CDs that year. His shelf looked pretty similar. Besides, who said this is even a 1989 photo? Could be 1993 for all I know and many people had at least a dozen CDs by that year.

Besides, it WAS taken between 1992-1995.  A Google image search reveals its source:

When I zoom in on FireFox I can see that the right edge is clear. Must be a cassette box as CD players for cars where still expensive at the time.

Yeah this is great news.  I have purchased every version of Final writer and Wordworth since they came out.  I will most definitely purchase this update when it is available for 68k.
A fun side note memory I have is of the authors of FW and WW competing with each other on the features and ranting back and forth on the forums.  CUCUG amiga website I believe.... but I could be remembering wrong.  Anyway... THANK YOU DAMMY!  You'll have my purchase when available!

Yeah - Looks really nice!

I bought the FinalOffice 97 package back in 1998. I love FinalWriter, but here in Germany we had some orthography reforms the last in 2006.

This made the spell checker in FW more or less useless.

Is there a way to update the German spell-checker database as well?
Or a possibility to use an existing German open source spell-checker as plugin - like e.g. LanguageTool (https://languagetool.org/)?

Do you happen to know what became of FinalCopy, the "little brother" of FinalWriter?

Bringing this back from the dead.

It's been a while since I've posted an update... however.

I purchased Final Writer 97 back in the day.  I can print from OS4.1 via usb using postscript to my HP MFP281 and via the network from my A4000T 060 using postscript as well.  I purchased my HP MPF281 specifically because it supports postscript.

I even have a previous post on this.
