Sony and Viewsonic LCDs at 50Hz
« on: October 05, 2006, 02:29:44 PM »
I've been looking for an LCD that can sync down to 50Hz.  These are fairly hard to come by in North America, but it seems to me there's one pretty major exception to this.

Pretty much every Sony LCD I've looked at claims to sync down to 48Hz, which would make them ideal for displaying PAL games through my scandoubler/flickerfixer.  For example, see this one and click on the specifications.  I've looked at quite a few others, and it appears that basically the whole Sony line of LCDs does do 50Hz.

Same thing now for Viewsonics.  Again they almost comprehensively claim to do 50Hz.  This one looks quite nice.

Does anyone have any actual experience with these Sony or Viewsonic LCDs that can back up this claim?  Remember I don't need 15KHz because I have a scandoubler already.

You can also check EIZO or Iiyama which have also scandoubler-able TFTs. I have an Iiyama ProLite E438S here and works like a dream so other should do too. ;-)

Unfortunately they're not exactly common items in North America, unless they're sold under some other brand.

Well, I dont know, America is far away from here. But from the specs of both items you linked they should work without any problems.

This one should be available also in America

The thing about LCDs is I like to buy them in person because I can get them to test the screen out before I buy it.

I'm aware that you can get Iiyama, etc. in the USA but only from a select few stores that I'd have to have deliver to me in Canada.

The common brands here like Viewsonic and Sony are available in lots of stores, I just want to know if anyone has tried them out before to verify that what they say about 50Hz is true.

I don't know about the Sony or Viewsonic, but my Samsung 740T does 50Hz. A "signal out of range" message pops up for a few seconds, but it works fine. If it's rated down to 48Hz, I can't imagine you'd have a problem.

I agree. Especially using Amiga screenmodes... some LCDs handle image scaling much better than others.

My Shuttle XP17 isn't supposed to support 50Hz but it does.  Best bet is to make a friend at your local computer store and take your Amiga in there to test.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I decided to take a gamble on a nice 19 inch Viewsonic vx922.

I can now confirm that when Viewsonic says 50Hz, they mean it :-)
