USB to SVGA?
« on: November 25, 2010, 10:35:13 AM »
Hi All,

With the news of the new acceletarors from Jens and the new Roadshow TCP/IP stack, the only thing I'll be lacking will be a decent screen resolution.   I've searched the various forums and google and whilst I have found the question asked before - I've not found an answer.

What is the likelihood of any of the USB 'graphics cards' (aka USB to SVGA adapters) working on an Amiga?   Are any of these devices supported by open source drivers?  If so - how much work would be required to port?   Do we have anyone willing to try?

Would such a device be usable on a subway USB interface (with no high speed mode)?

No (due to intensive isochronous mode use at high speed, which is not present in uhc124 chip)

For SVGA, you need at least an amber chip (A3000 or A2000+A2320) or ECS, or AGA. Shortly, you need a thing to plug between denise and the screen, but not a usb one.

Thanks for the reply.  I thought there was a reason this hadn't already been done.

Worth asking the question though :)

Edit: So my only option real option for decent graphics is a tower, busboard and/or PPC/Bvision?  :(

There was an old thread about these DisplayLink thingies - I've noticed there's a new generation out just recently.
