amiga.org rip-off?
« on: January 26, 2009, 05:16:03 PM »
On the EAB, I read this:

"I get it u're an  Amiga fanatic; u should go to fanatics' den: www.amigaworld.net :)"

What the hell?
Looks like an Amiga.org rip-off... Or are the sites related??

uhhh, they are both Amiga sites.  Not a rip of in any way.  The site has been around from many many years.  You too can start your own Amiga site.  Amiga world is mainly German and yes it's full of folk who believe in the second coming of the Amiga as a viable major platform, hence fanatics!
EAB on the other hand is a very cool English site and in some ways simply the coolest Amiga site ever.

BTW this site and many other "forum" sites are built with the same software kit, hence they look similar, not sure what the kit is called.....

I wouldn't say the majority of visitors to AW.net had an unrealistic feeling that the Amiga is likely to become a mainstream system. I also wouldn't say it was a "mostly german" site, especially since the people behind it are, AFAIK, mostly from the UK.

Yep, I guess I should have just said "European site" and that the have a "reputation" for having a bit  "more of a zealous vigor" about the future of the Amiga.  :-)
Nothing is pure!

Anyway I think Akira just means the Layout looks the same as this site, and honestly I don't know which came first.... I think this one.

I would say that Amigaworld is more focused on OS4 and the newer machines that run OS4 and AOrg is more a classic Amiga site.

I'm amazed with this:
http://www.amigans.net

To me it seems too purely "RED" zone.

I prefer more mixed colors. (my boing ball is no more purely red/white, the original check mark had rainbow colors after all)

amigaworld.net has been the official HQ of the red camp for a loooong time but they loosened up little bit when they lost hope for new amiga hardware from AInc (I'm still amazed how long they kept believing.)

To me, Amigaworld.net, is like the X-Files. They have suspicion, conspiracy theories and outlandish stories. While I like the site, they focus more on blaming XXX for Amiga's problems, or So-and-So is an expert on XXX and everyone else is wrong. I like this site best, because it's more down to Earth and people seem to want to help you more - Plus they have a cool logo!

Keep up the great work all.

In the end. . . no, but they're MUCH more passionate about it. Too much drama for me.

We began work on Amiga.org in late 1994.  The first-use rights on the logo date back to April 26, 1995. According to WHOIS, Amigaworld.net started on 22 May, 2001.

Historically this was at the very height of the red/blue wars, and as is tradition, Amiga.org split into factions and those who wanted 4.x and new stuff went there.  Those who were just fine stayed here.  It's not quite as simple as that, and I have NO intention of opening old wounds, but that's what happened.

As the world began, God (aka Kevin Hisel for our purposes)  created the Amiga Web directory.  Later, the AWD begat Amiga.org, which begat Amigaworld.net, which begat Amigans.net.

It's a true telling in the world of Amiga that when a site is doing something well, a spinoff is born with people who believe differently.

Judging by the timing, if the Amiga is still alive in the hearts of minions everywhere, Amigans.net should be spawning a rebellion of it's own in about 3 years.

(I say all of this honestly in loving humor of how silly we all once were over this crap).

We never were.  If this were the TV series Red Dwarf, it would be the cats fighting over whether the hats were red or blue.  As it is, it's just time honored tradition that whenever you gather a large group of people who're enthusiastic about ANYTHING, division occurs.

Kinda like basic chemistry/anatomy/cell division 101.

I wanted to focus on the "classic" Amiga until which time we actually saw something out of Amiga Inc.  Amigaworld.net saw a niche to fill supporting OS 4.0 and took advantage of the sitation.

ABSOLUTELY no different from what happened when I formed Amiga.org in 1994 after seeing the potential of creating a portal site for the Amiga, versus Kevin's manually created "list of links" that was known as the Amiga Web Directory.

When Amiga.org came about, some thanked me for it, some cursed me for it.  All I know is that 15 years later, I'm trapped in this strange universe and no one can hear me scream (haha)..
