What's the best way to get traffic?
« on: April 06, 2008, 01:36:46 AM »
Last year, I built several Retro/Vintage sites. The Amiga site, my most favourite, was the last one built. It has also generated the least amount of traffic. I figure after three to nine months, things should have picked up.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve this?

Does having a blog make a difference?

I am not looking to become the biggest Amiga or Atari site out there, but I would like to someday be in the top 10.

Perhaps I am too late, but I seek your wisdom.

What Xiti ?
http://www.xiti.com/en/analytics.aspx

Strange, on your Sega site, there is nothing visible about MARKIII and SMS FM module.
And nothing about the title changing depending of the SMS region setting ? Yes there is ! Like the MegaDrive/Genesis.
Try "Aztec Adventure" in Japanese setting  :rtfm:  it becomes Nasca'88 !!
Keep the Faith !

I also repair drives of our old beloved Amiga

a) Try to get in some link list and search catalogs.

A Google search for sites which are linking to yours doesn't return results.

Other famous places where I couldn't find your page:

http://www.amiganews.de/cgi-bin/anwd-db.pl?la=d

b) Make announcements after some updates.

Failing all that, you could always post the link on here...

Great sites btw

Thanks! I did not know those sites exist. Hopefully in a few weeks I will be up on their board.

It's strange, but my personal links page gets more hits and it is just a glorified list of links...

Getting traffic to an Amiga related site would be difficult nowadays. Think how many dedicated sites there are out there already. You probably need something unique as a draw, something no other Amiga site has. I have no idea what that would be, so I'm probably no help..
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

If you want your site to grow you have to have unique, quality content. Unfortunately content on your Amiga site looks very generic. There are thousands of sites on the net with description about every Amiga-model, what exactly do you bring to the net with another such site?

You are also running catalog photos which gives impression that the site is a niche MFA site. If you had your own Amiga 500 that you have tuned and describe why you have done so and how you have done so together with lots of your own photos that would be far more interesting than just another page with technical specs of A500 and texts of how revolutionary it was back in 1986.

Think about it, which page would someone want to spread the link for, another "A500" page (I have one of those myself BTW ur not alone  ), or a personal page with your own opinion about A500 and your story about A500 together with the usual technical specs etc...

Another thing, if you want to get lots of traffic, focus on niche words. It is much harder to be top 10 on google with "Amiga 500", and much easier with "GVP HD8+". However with "GVP HD8+" at number one I dont expect to get a lot of traffic at all because not many are going to search for that one. I will give you a hint -focus on "Amiga roms"  :rtfm:

@CV643d

A lot of good points in there. I am working on expanding it right now, but it may take a few days as I want to make sure it to be accurate and read well.

I have spent the last few days getting UAE running on my mac and tinkering with it.. Trying to figure out why I can't get speeds close to the 060... oh well, another day

Your Amiga site and the two others above it that I clicked on in your signature strike me as place-holder sites for some reason. Maybe people go there and think "hey, what gives" and move on because everyone hates cyber squatters.

I've found that the best way to generate web traffic is to post an article saying how lame Apple and its products are... Make sure that people can leave comments and make up some extreme anti apple FUD to fan the flames :-)

Write articles  that compel the user to come back.

Cool Comaprisons:

Show how the amiga could print, email, use deluxe paint, final writer, and distand susns while the Macs and PC's of the time coudlnt.

Then pull down the screen to reveal.... Shapesifter running a full mac emulation.

Used to do this on my warp engine 040.

PROMOTE your site, here, EAB, Gamespy, IGN, spend about 3 hours a day. Link to Amiga retailers. Interview a amiga software developer.

There's a lot of text (which is okay) but where are the pics? And talking about text: How about some extra technical specs? The A600 and A1200 specs state "A4000 Product Specs:"
