where does the Amiga technology stand today?

The Amiga is a Wright Flyer and the rest of the world is traveling in Learjets.

Seriously: the Amiga is loads of fun, but you need to be a hardcore fan to forget about all of it's disadvantages compared to a common wintel PC these days. For sheer usability and compatibility with todays technology(Internet, USB, digital cameras and whatnot) without wanting to go throuh any trouble, a Windows/Linux pc (or Mac) is the way to go. Amiga is good for fanatics...

Hobbyists or enthusiasts sounds so much better!

Nah, fanatics sounds just good. I would start worrying when people begin to call themselves Amiga fundamentalists :-D
