- an Amiga-specific version of "ebay" where we can work to better help Amiga users and elimate the few scumbags running around on ebay preying on Amiga users.

- a comprehensive and "living" online FAQ (unlike the usual, it's done, so never update it again)

Well, I'd be willing to help with that. What I mean to say is,  actually look to update the FAQ when I've completed it. In any case, I need input from other users... Otherwise it'll just be 'What Cyberus thinks are frequently asked questions, and what Cyberus thinks are the answers to them'

There is only one way for the fighting to end.  That is to literally seperate all the red and blue children into seperate sites and don't allow them to speak to one another.

I would have thought that`d only create more animosity/hatred/trolling etc etc.

Surely the best way is to get them to try out the machine/OS they hate so much, and get them chatting to others who use it in the hope that they might actually learn something.
Then again, that`s even less likely to happen than your suggestion.

Dunno about a replacement, wouldn`t you run into copyright issues without asking the author of every single bit of sofware?
But it definately needs an independant mirror that can step in as the ftp upload site and distribution point for the other mirrors.
I saw Amiga.orgs server stats the other day..guess there`s not enough bandwidth left to host something like this here?

a User Group management engine (though user groups are quickly growing passe thanks to the Internet)

Hmm... Interesting idea.

Imagine we had a list of Geographic areas submitted by forum users. That list could be refined and used by other members to choose their location for their profile. The list would expand as and when a user from a different place joined.

This would help us to get a clearer picture of which community members are in our area and therefore it would make it easier to organise user groups.

For example it would be interesting to know which members lived in Manchester (UK) but it would also be nice to know who lived in the North West of England.

[Edit] I know there already exists a location section in the profile but not everybody seems to be using it properly if at all :-)

Wayne, how about quick links for newbies, lots of them ask the same old questions about the same hardware etc etc etc

the forums are great, lots of information for people, but nothing for newbies simple answers for simple questions

on the hardware forum, maybe at the top of the forum header, a quick link to those online help guides, like http://www.amiga-hardware.com/hardware or http://amiga.resource.cx/index.html#topics  etc, so newbies can look quickly before posting forum requests.

We can live in hope anyway :-D
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example

It wouldn't matter how easy, or idiot-proof we make things, unless we read people's mind, they NEVER think (or I should say BOTHER) to search for an answer first, and there's no way to MAKE them click on a FAQ link before asking the same old questions.

Perhaps intergrating relevant parts of the faq into the top thread in each area, like your coffee house usage post is in the various CH threads :-)

Not that I've just ripped the idea straight out of Ars or anything ;-)
