Ben,
Good luck, and welcome to Amiga.org, but what's wrong with the half-dozen channels that are already available, including our own (link at left)?

Well Wayne there is nothing wrong with the other channels that already exist, but i am trying to Create a dedicated amiga server, for anything amiga includeing emulation, classic amigas, and new amigas, and to provide as much support as i can do, i am prepaird to host the server for free :) so if you would maybe consider moveing your channel to my server, anyone who has ops on your channel will of cause get ops on my server :) and wayne could i tempt you with Irc Ops :)

What kind of support is that? What are the exact benefits of this?
i am prepaird to host the server for free :)
IRC servers are free.

Eh. Thanks, but no thanks.
I'm afraid but this is not going to work. Yet another single(?) server irc network on who-knows-how (un)reliable connection. There is real benefit in using large networks: guaranteed accessibility, stability etc. This server appears to be running on AOL.

And surprisingly the server is down ATM:
amiga.ath.cx [205.188.198.42] 6667 (ircd) : Connection timed out
'Nuff said.
[UPDATE: The server appears to be up again. Looks like the dynamic DNS changed just recently. Now the IP address appears to be 172.186.178.150. Dynamic IP address is not helping.]
-
uhhh the server isnt down its been up the whole time my DNS had a problem but server is still there so i think you should try again befor stateing something that isnt true, and my connection is reliabul
-
172.186.178.150 that has been the server ip since 2:20pm yesterday it hasnt changed i guess your whois is unreliabull :)
-
mhhhh . . .
-
I think it could be successful if people have it a chance.
It isn't a repetition on other channels because it is a completely Amiga-only server with only Amiga channels. There will also be a whole site based on this soon and a forum, not too different from Amigaworld
-
Some b0rken DNS servers don't propagate changes quickly enough. Just recently (few hours age) the domain name resolved to 205.188.198.42.
So it'd better be stable or people will have trouble connecting.
-
It is stable for me and there is no lag
-
you can connect to any of the following
the servers are
ticonderoga.planetamiga.net
saratoga.planetamiga.net
rubicon.planetamiga.net
or just use irc.planetamiga.net
and join #amiga
many thanx
Ben
also services are up
These Servers are on 3 Diffrent Boxs, each box has 100mb connection, and are very stable, :) so now hopefully it will never go down as the dns points to all 3 servers you should always now be able to connect please visit and join #amiga or make your own channel
Many Thanks Again
Ben

Do they support irc clients? :-P
-
@All
Anyone know of the AmiIRC clone IRC client for Linux or Windows is called or where a compile link can be found?
-
Of Cause they support irc clients lol :-D
-
The network should be listed in some IRC programs by the end of the year.
Thanks to all who have came along so far, the #amiga channel now typically has around 20 people in at a time, and more channels are starting to use our server. :-)
-
@ SHADES
You mean XChat? Check my sig. Keep in mind, though, that the Windows version is now shareware o_O, but there are plenty of alternate builds (free) and "patches" out there, unless you try your luck and compile it yourself.
