for a proposed Boing Bag 3

BB3 is already out, so is BB4, if you count the community-driven projects available for download here:

http://lilliput.amiga-projects.net/bbag4.htm

Occasionally people have trouble installing them, but that's the nature of Amiga software in general for ya. Many crazy configs, occasionally someone's going to have an issue. Myself and many others run them daily without any trouble. Runs like butter on my A2000! ;)

There's even updates beyond this, things like Peter K's icon.library that's updated every month or so.  Definitely worth a look on Aminet for updates to many of the "core" OS files!

I was looking thru Cammys WB pallette/workbench setup just now. It really looks great!

If you haven't already seen it, check out this guide.  Works great on mid-spec ECS machines, if that's what you have.

I have never liked Hyperion anyway. Neither Amiga Inc for that matter.

Go on, tell us how you really feel! :roflmao:

if only you could boot/install right off the CD drive. Then the discs would be less of a concern.

3.9 can almost install off CD, all it needs is a single "Emergency" boot floppy to get it started.  Still better than six.  So close, so close!  ;)  Might have to try making a bootable USB, have heard there's others who have done it.  One of these days when I have the time!  ;)

So, would it be better off to use this updated version of OS 3.1 or to get 3.9? I have the 3.5 CD but is 3.1 a better option if Im still planning to run the video toaster flyer software (yes I know its outdated now that HD is out) I still like to play with it as well as Lightwave.

I'm hoping someone will come along and give you more knowledgeable response to this, but wasn't there some compatibility issues between the Toaster software and 3.9?  If not, and your system is beefy enough to support it, I'd see no reason not to run 3.9 (unless you want that nostalgia factor).  ;)

For me it is, I run 3.9 also without reaction, including 3.9 workbench. The prefs programs are really just glorified editors and can fairly easily be replaced.

You are probably in the 1%.  I don't think 99% of Amiga users would know how to rewrite their Preferences programs.  What do you use?  MUI?  Shell scripts to change all your preferences?  I can imagine that being a nightmare, haha.  ;)  Seems like a lot of work for very little reward.
