Title: hum, lamers?
Post by: blobrana on February 24, 2004, 03:28:59 AM
There`s a nice article about the growing breed of professional female gamers here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3496963.stm (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3496963.stm)
it seems hat "the x and y chromosomes were not linked to reflexes, hand - eye coordination, and visual acuity. [so] Men are not going to be able to use any of these physical attributes to gain an advantage. As their advantages are thrown out of the window"...

Hum, lamers...

[oh well, frag you later,,,]

...and there was me thinking that stereotyping and discriminating was eminently justifiable ;-)

But female CS players will take way too long at the start of a round.  They'll be asking someone whether they look fat in this outfit, whether there are any colour clashes between their gun and their clothes... :-)

I'm not sure what the point of your post was... but one of my brain scan experiments might have interested you.

The experiemnt required sujects (both male and female) to watch a small dot moving around a computer monitor.
In the subjects left hand (ie the hand they do not usually use) held a small joy stick and they had to use the joy stick to move another dot around the screen.

During the course of the experiment,  the subject was requried to either chase or avoid the computer controlled dot, depending upon the instructions given.

What the subject was not told was that the controls of the joystick would be altered (ie one or both of the axis would change at random), and the computer controled dot followed a pattern, which was changed at set points.

The interesting thing is that men used a totally different part of their brain to observe and control the dots to women, and that men were much quicker to adapt to the changes in control and pattern. It was also clear that more men over women spotted the pattern in the movent of the dot.

We also did some Emotional response tests... suffice to say women came out on top with that one... frankly I couldn't tell what the people in the images were feeling... :-?

Reminds me of a Beavis and Butthead sketch, where they're undergoing psychological tests, and asked to fill in the blanks to certain sentences:

"When I'm alone, I feel ....."

Beavis writes "myself"

:-)

That`s because it`s soaked in your blood...

[but i suppose that CS is a bit slower paced than Quake Arena]

Counter-Strike.  Half-Life mod.  And it rocks.

Q3 I'm pretty good at (IMO) but can't play it until Nvidia fix their drivers with regard to Punkbuster compatibility, and I'm not downgrading the drivers because they're really good otherwise.

CS is pretty damn realistic though.  Terrorists versus counter-terrorists in a number of scenarios, purely online game.

Wolf3d was something completely new (to me)
Doom was amazing.
Dark Forces was perfect.

but for the rest....

Thief is IT. And if you do not agree with this you'll get an poisonous arrow in your neck.
