Word .doc
« on: December 03, 2002, 02:11:34 PM »
Seeing as I do not own a PC and people send me Word
documents, is a there a way to read these on my Amiga?

Thanks for your time.

Yes. Sniff around for DocDatatypes which will enable you to read those attatchments.
The homepage seems to have been overloaded, but you may find mirrors elsewhere.
If you're out of luck, PM me as I've got them at home somewhere.

Well, I know I've used a program called WordConverter with decent results. I got a text-file instead. Didn't work with all kinds of word-documents though, but it might have been updated since it's quite some time since I used it.

Otherwise I think AmigaWriter 2 can import word, not entirely sure about that one though. probably with some limitations too.

I frequently use a program called WVWare which
converts doc files into html ones. It's a bit
difficult to install, but it works well and
it supports nearly all the Word version, including
the Mac ones.s
I've heard of another converter, called AntiWord.
Both utilities are on Aminet.

BTW DocDatatypes and WordConverter are shareware
and the unregistered versions can convert only a limited
quantity of text.

Amigawriter 2.20 can read most word documents (Word 0.0 - Word 2000) without any problems....
... and it doesnt cost much either, a nice wordprocessor really..
