Can someone Please give me a name!

What do you call that platform? Not IBM, not even really IBM compatible.  Not a Windows or Microsoft box, it runs Linux as well.  Not an Intel box, because it might be AMD or something else. X86?  Now we have P3, P4, and the new 64 bit which really do not follow the X86 sequence at all.  So what do you call all of IBM's microcomputer descendants and spinoffs?

Officially, I think it's 'IA-32' (or ia32) for 32-bit processors with an i386 or later compatible instruction set, 'IA-64' (or ia64) for 64-bit processors with an Itanium compatible instruction set, and 'x86_64' for processors with an AMD64/EM64T compatible instruction set.

Hrm, lets see...

I call my main system Epheremis, its an AMD64 system, runs BeOS (obviously) and windows 2000 (occationally).

My IP Cop running Firewall/router/gateway is called Upholder and is a Compaq Small form factor system - Pentium 2.

My Mp3 Jukebox (that Karlos recently had the pleasure of streaming from) is called Thunderchild (after the name of the ship in War of the Worlds) and is another Compaq SFF system - P3 and runs Zeta RC2.

The missus's PC is called Argenta - Duron 1200 running windows 2000 (bleh)

Thunderchild's predecessor was called Thumper and was a P1 running NetBSD.

My last functional A1200 was called Artemis.

My A3000 was called "The grand old lady of the internet"...

Blessed Be,
Alan Fisher - the_leander

Microsoft is officially calling the AMD64/EM64T (amd and intel) architecture x64 now for extended 64-bit systems.. Intel seems to be going to an architecture that's compliant with the AMD64 and retaining better backwards compatibility.

Hey "Weebles wooble but they don't fall down!" Do these computer systems qualify?

The one word 'Amiga' carries a world of meaning which encompasses all of its variants regardless of manufacturer and version of OS.  I need something for the Intel-AMD-AT-XT-Athlon-Windows-DOS-X86-P4-etc line of computers.

I think the technical term is Personal computer or just "PC", often pronounced "Pea Sea".

-Edit- Karlos beat me to it :-D

Once again I am guilty of being too literal.  I thought the Amiga was a personal computer. :-)
