Cherry Cybo@rd Amiga Edition now available

The Dutch retailer Computer City announced that after some problems, keyboards with Amiga logos can now be delivered . The product line is called ´Chrerry Cybo@rd Amiga Edition´. Read the original message below.

Here is what happened so far:

-We approached Cherry to ask about the possibilities for their Cybo@rd series. They told us they assembled the keys to the keyboards and then 'lasered' the characters onto them. This means a huge qty to buy for each different country layout. The alternative would be for us to order single keycaps, so we (or any other dealer) could order localised versions of the keyboard and replace the keys. They told us that the left and right windows keys were equal (mark 1). The delivery time was to be 6 weeks.
-We ordered them, received them after about 12 weeks (!) and had them printed professionally, with special treatment so they keys wouldn't wear off.

-We received the keys. Remember mark 1? The left and right keys turned out to be different :-(
-We realised we had only left keys so we ordered the right (right) keys as well and had them printed etc. too. This took another 5 weeks or so.
-We got the keys in today and they are available NOW. We are in the proces of stocking the keyboards now, so all pre-orders will be sent out next week and dealers should be able to order and supply either the sets of keycaps or complete keyboards.

For the record; this is a fully official Amiga-licensed product. We have a trademark and logo license with Amiga, inc. and they have approved this design :-)

1. Will there be US distribution?

2. Are these designed with the classic Amiga models
in mind or for those Amiga One's (or whatever those
new Amiga models are)? I guess it does not make
much difference, but I was wondering if these keyboards
are used with the classic Amiga/USB - would we then
be able to use all those extra buttons? I suppose
that might be more of a question for the USB software
stack.

3. Finally - I think it would have been nice to have
put a boing ball logo on the upper right corner of the
keyboard.

Not to sure on the Boing ball, I do like the old "A" keys on my A1200 keyboard.

But can't find anything in thier own shop!

Sticking a boing ball onto a keyboard doesn't make it an Amiga one. What happens to HELP, the capslock with the light in it, the CTRL in a decent place, and the sensible number of just 10 function keys?

I agree, although to get a keyboard manufactuer to produce a "Classic Amiga" like keyboard would probably be hideously expensive, given the tiny production run.

I will prob buy one later, or mabe see if i can design an interface to use the old keyboard with a PS/2 interface

Compared to This Conversion, what you propose seems much easier.

There should be. Contact your local dealer, otherwise Ron should have US keyboards in stock.

These are standard PC keyboards, and have nothing to do with the Classic Amiga. If you've towered your Classic and have a PC keyboard adapter for it, then these keyboards will work.
You can only use the extra keys if they're recognised by the OS/application, anyway.

keyboard.

Feel free to add your own.

Well... It sure looks quite nice, but as KennyR pointed it out, it's
NOT an Amiga keyboard... :-(
It's rather a peecee keyboard with two Boing Ball keys.

I, as probably every Amigan out there, loves the FEELING of my Ammy's
keyboard.
Just compare it to a pc keyboard...

Actually, many of the early Amiga keyboards were produced by Cherry, this was one of the reasons why we picked them.

You could get a Mitsumi keyboard and stick the "A" keys from your
A1200 in that instead.  That's what I did when I first towered my
Amiga in '97.  As long as Mitsumi havn't changed the way their keys
fit you should be alright.

I can't wait till non-amiga people see the keyboards and say its a
copycat of the Windoze keys.
