How many Amigas do you own?
« on: June 15, 2007, 02:15:56 PM »
I see some of you people signature´s and i am amazed of the stuff you have.

I have a small "theory" about people hanging out here:
1) Ex Amiga users, who still love the platform but dont really own REAL Amiga hardware anymore (just emulate)
2) Die-hard Amiga users who owns many or at least one/uses Amiga

So, just curious, and im tempted to post first, but just want to ready your storied...how many Amigas do you own??

Details please!!!

Regards

Sebastian

I'm afraid I got a bit insane too. I got an A1200(bare, got a Blizz1260 for it but it was dead), A4000D with WarpEngine/CyberVision64 and A4000T with PicassoIV/Paloma/Concierto and a 3640 (Yes, I know I must take off the 3640 and get something better).

I've considered selling my A4000D or A4000T many times cause I really don't need both but there's a problem: besides me liking them the A4000D is to small a set up for adding a PowerPC and some decent cards (get's too hot) and is a pain to mess with the internals, everything is too tight). The A4000T on the other hand, although also a pain to exchange parts inside, has much more space and so is the ideal setup to upgrade. But it's damn expensive I shouldn't have it (got it on a bargain) and could perfectly live with a less expanded Amiga. There are also times where a less expanded Amiga makes sense to use (you don't need to power all those gfx/sound/tv/lan/usb whatever cards and use a ppc, when you're simply coding some stuff on CygnusEd or playing some classic game...)

So since I can't decide wich to sell I'm keeping both for now

Technically I've got two now, but one of them is a very very flakey desktop A1200 which is in pieces. The other is my beloved A4000 (see sig). Until recently I also had a PegII.

My amiga (060+Mediator+voddo3+sb128 etc..) is the only desktop I have left, I use it to play my mp3s daily, and sometimes use amiVNC or amtelnet to connect into servers. It is well suited to the job it does but I mainly just keep it for nostalgia.

I've moved away from desktops to just having a laptop and some small servers hidden away to keep my data / processes on.

Restraining orders are just another way of saying I love you!

Gav - I'd say there should be a 3rd category, as well.  COLLECTOR and past enthusiast.  I own quite a few real Amigas (10+?  I'm not actually sure how many are in my collection right now...).  I have a couple really nice setups and then some spares and some I've bought for some other reason.  In all reality, I very rarely use them, though.

I mean, ranked by overall usage, no Amiga breaks the top 5:

(used daily)
1) TiVo (Series 2-DT - It has a wwwd, FTPd, and runs a Linux kernel... it's a computer, by my opinion.)
2) Win 2k3 media server (can stream video to the TiVo or play MP3s around the house, runs TiVo Desktop, etc.)
3) PocketPC (my portable brain - plus it can emulate an Amiga 500 or C64!  Amazingly useful device!)

(used weekly)
4) XP Pro workstation (my main Workstation nowadays - has UAE installed, though I haven't used UAE on it in over a year.)

(used monthly)
5) an outdated laptop running Win2k (slow and annoying at times, but it is portable, and can download large amounts of camera images, etc... Also has UAE installed, but it not even a 1.x version!)
6) my A1200 w/ GVP '030 (retro fun)
7) my SGI Octane R10k

(was once used monthly)
8) my A4000D (used to run a CSMKII 060.  now has a stock 030 card, as the MKII died, and I haven't sent it off for repairs, yet.)

(then used rarely)
My A500, A3000, and all sorts of other strange hardware I've got around.

I'm somewhat ashamed to admit it, really, but that's the situation.  At this stage, I can't see how I could classify myself as anything BUT a collector.

A Mee Too post, almost. I have one and usually more of all except the A3000T (but I've been offered one) and CD32. Even an A500+, which is rare as honest politicians on this side of the Atlantic.

Here's a list off the top of my head:

1 A1000
2 A500
1 A500+
1 A2000
1 A2000(T) Bomac towered :)
1 A3000D
1 CDTV
1 A1200
2 A600
2 A4000D
1 A4000T   Amiga Tech
1 A4000(T) desktop motherboard in tower case, which is different form a A4000T mb
