Overseas purchases and bank transfers
« on: July 04, 2008, 04:01:48 PM »
Is there a reliable easy and inexpensive way to do a bank transfer from the USA to a another country? Both of my local banks want between US $35.00 and $50.00 and I have to go in person to the bank to do it. I was just wondering if a relatively safe online service like Paypal existed for this sort of thing. I checked Western Union too, but the online options are limited and expensive. Perhaps I am missing something obvious.

Thanks,
-Jeff

Nope, banks want to gorge as much money out of you as possible, international bank to bank transfers is one such way!

I suggest you stick to Paypal!

OK Thanks! That's what I figured. The problem is this purchase has nothing to do with Ebay. I was hoping to purchase the last (2) HD Floppy-Fix boards from the projects creator on A1K.org but the bank transfer fees make it pretty expensive and he seems to have no interest in Paypal (Not that I blame him)

I also have 2 of the Amtrade A357 "The Real HD Floppy" boards.

I was looking in to making up a batch of those but the data on the GAL is protected from being read. That's why they spent SO much time and expertise developing the HD Floppy Fix project.

Paypal???

I know it has its problems but there more when linked to ebay auctions, IMHO its the cheapest way of sending money to other countries.

The only downside is the receiver takes all the fees involved if you want to cover the fees you need to work them out and add to the amount your sending.

Paypal is changing soon so that the fees can be paid by the sender, not necessarily the receiver...  I think that changes on 9th July IIRC...

That might make the recipient somewhat more amenable!
