What is your reason for that response?

Well... He does have a point. I understand you're anxious, but, well, don't get too excited. It makes your posts extremely hard to read.
Life sucks. Then you die. Then they throw mud in your face. Then you get eaten by worms. Be happy it happens in that order... My Amiga 1200

Ahem, no you can't, not even with "limited" quality ;)

I remember playing the first few seconds of an mp3 (it was a song from The Police) by prebuffering it on an A500+  with 2mb ram and no hdd :)

Wasn't available a parallel or serial port thingy that allow you to listen to mp3s in your 500 doing the decoding itself and leaving the a500 cpu free?.

Provided you've got enough time, you can. ;)

Videos/movies are definately possible on an unaccelerated 68000 Amiga 500!

Go to www.youtube.com and search for StrikerAUT or Amiga Ham6 or take a look here http://www.lotek64.com/hp/download.php
Issue 41, page 7 (all in German language).

Reini

I have two very curious questions to ask. Is it seriously impossible, literally, impossible for an Amiga 500 to have high speed internet connection even if the person upgrade the CPU from 7 Mhz to 50 Mhz? Can the person still have high speed internet connection like that of the Amiga 1200 and 4000 series?

Just a word of advice: You're walking down a dangerous and expensive path, my friend.  Having an A500 do all that is going to cost you a *lot* of time and money.  It's not worth it just for brags.

If I'm wrong, please accept my apologies.  But, if I'm right then I know the truth stings because I did the same mistake a few years back.  Cost me a lot of money, time and frustration.  After the buzz wore off, it turned into a big dust collector and I ended up selling the parts with a loss.

Also, if a person have 50 Mhz CPU is it also impossible to be able to watch movies on the Amiga 500? Is it really far fetched to watch movies on Amiga 500? Because a simple mp3 player I have, it is tiny screen and it is not even a computer, or anything, it is a very inferior hardware spec for mp3, allows you to view images and play movies with sound by converting the movie from avi to mv or some format? So why can't Amiga 500 with 50 Mhz be able to play movies when Commodore 64 can play movies on 20 Mhz CPU running WINGS computer?

I have done this on a A1000 although not practicle. i had a viper 520cd accelerator in the A1000 with 3x roms,8MB ram,and 540Mb hd. I hacked a x-surf ethernet card to the side and it happily browsed the net is 16 glorious colors(setting ibrowse 2.4 to use fast ram helped here).
it worked flawless but didnt look what i would call.. good.. lol

If you dont need ethernet, a gvp A530 with 030/50 and 3.1 roms along with BIGANIM from aminet may be the most practicle thing to do .. Biganim can stream anims from the hard drive. Put a fast scsi HD in the gvp and kick it into synchronous mode and it should stream at least 5MB/s or so and wont suck all the cpu time up.. you will be dealing with monster vid files being nearly uncompressed however. You will have to convert video to some anim format.
A dctv is the only way to get decent output close to 24bit im my opinion but i havent done any of this is quite a few years. A fast scsi interface with low cpu overhead is the key in my opinion. I wouldnt expect much off ecs/ocs tho lol.

Yeah, you need something much faster. There was an mp3 decoder that attached to the disk drive port, so you could play mp3's on a 68000 machine.

You could make a VCD decoder using an fpga. Then either have it genlock the output or do some funky true colour to ham6 conversion.

Maybe Jens will add it to his flicker fixer :-)

There is this for MP3:
http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1078

I have one I use (admittedly on my 1200) and it works great.
No reason it won't work on the A500, as the processing is offloaded.
(I think the software needs 2.x or above)..

So a movie player that streamed video and offloaded the audio to the device would be feasible.
You still have some CPU overhead pumping the MP3 thru the serial port, but it should be less that if it processed it thru Paula...

Amiga 1000 w/ 4M FAST RAM, DUAL CF hard drives, external floppy.

Hi,
I will show this coming sunday for the first time in the world in public complete full movies on a particulary stock 68000 Amiga 500!!

I have converted Indiana Jones (3) and the last crusade, Star Wars Episode IV, Avatar and Cars.
I will play all these movies on a normal Amiga 500 with an AlfaPower external IDE Harddisk (no Turbocard!!!). If you think it isn't possible come to Vienna. I will show you. :)

That is sweet! Can you send me link of these videos so I can watch them on my Amiga 1200? By the way guys, the OP is very old...I no longer cared to watching movies on an A500 since I already achieved my dreams by watching DVD quality movies on my A1200. Besides, I have already too much games I need to finish in three different systems:

. xBox 360
. PC
. Amiga 1200

I barely have enough time now to convert movies into A1200 to watch them. Ones I am satisfied with my gaming experience I will move on to watching movies on an A1200.

Sorry but this is due to my very slow and limited 3g usb stick Internet connection not possible. Avatar (from Blu-Ray Special Edition) for example takes 3x 1.8GB for Amiga in uncompressed Ham6 Video Format. After the meeting I can make a short demo movie and upload it if you can provide a ftp.
Kind regards,
Reini
